Subject: Tri Nation Online - club competition

Our tri club received an email to participate in Tri Nation Online's "Club Cup" competition. Basically it's a ranking system where individual members would enter their race results after each race, and the club would end up with a composite ranking - and compete with other clubs of similar size.

Here are the details on how it works: http://www.trinationonline.com/ranking.asp

Has anyone ever participated in this or anything similar? With any success? I'm worried that club members won't care enough to go to a web site to enter their race results after every race, but I could be wrong.

The prize for the top division winners is a $750 sponsorship for the 2010 season, and the most active club receives a $250 sponsorship.

Do you think it would be worth it to participate? Do you think members would actually enter their information, or care? Other thoughts?

I would love to do this.  Sounds pretty fun, I'm a member of Lifetime Fitness (LTF) and I wonder if we could compile a group of racers.  I'm sure we have a pretty nice group of racers

Anything similar? Well, our USAT Region (South Midwest) has a very similar club competition, we won our division last year. It's not dependent on each individual inputting his results, one designated club member (in our case, moi) would send the club members' results after every race. I believe you're correct in your concern about about member apathy. I couldn't even get our guys to let me know when they participated in out-of-state races.

Hmm I checked out USAT's midwest region and there is literally no information on the page - it's blank.

Yeah the reason I mentioned the member apathy is that the club president said he has a really hard time as it is, getting member results just to post on our web site. He asks people to submit (no one does), and combs through event results every week during race season and still doesn't catch everyone. And then of course, someone complains becasue they weren't listed.

What bear said. We won our division in the SMW region too, and the guys that did the tracking put in a lot of work.

In addition to that, there's the USAT club championships, in OKC this year.

You guys must be in the "Big Club" division, Category 1. I can only imagine trying to track that many members, it was enough tracking the ~70 we have.

We still haven't received our prize money. Someone from the other Louisiana clubs picked it up and we don't know which one.

That's us. We're lucky in that most of our members are pretty active and involved, but it's still a tough job.

Tri Nation was launched this March and there's currently over 800 members and 24 teams participating in the Club Cup Competition. Teams have until 8/1 to begin posting their results to be eligible for the Club Cup title and the prize money. Each of the four division winners can win up to $1000.00. The season ends 11/15. Individuals are competing for the Champions Cup with nice trohpies going to the top overall male and female in the sprint, olympic, half and full distance triathlons.

Obviously I'm affiliated with the site and have been a member here for two years. I didn't join BT just to post this. This is our inaugural season and we'd love to get feedback on how we can make it better/easier for more teams and individuals to participate. Learn more at www.trinationonline.com.

This deal is legit!  Our club - the University of North Texas team - does it, and we've already had a $500 donation from Tri Nation just for being on the website.  It's totally worth your and your club's time.
