Subject: LA Triathlon Bike Courses

Anyone checked out the new LA Triathlon bike courses ?

What a disappointment !!   the sprint course is now a lot shorter and flatter  which for me was what made this race unique.  

The olympic  bike course now features a  loop section so the whole thing will be more crowded . And you will roll through the same area 3 times .

Also Looks like they took all the inclines  out and avoided any sort of scenic trip  on  Wilshire , past museum row , the mansions on  Rossmore and onto Hollywood Blvd and Sunset  and bailed out of  that nice short climb up to  the disney concert hall and also nixed  the fast descent into T2 . 

What made this race special  for me was the bike course and the trip through Los Angeles but these  changes are very sad indeed .

Thanks for the post.  No, I didn't know that the bike course had changed.  I hate loops in races, except where absolutely necessary and they didn't need loops for the previous nine years.  Why start now?  I agree that this bike course is a whole lot less interesting.   How about the run?  I thought last year's run course was absolutely crummy.  Two times straight up Grand Avenue?????  Yucko.  I should go check the website and see if they undid that change.

Wow....  Venice - Fairfax - Olympic is about as boring as you can get.  

I agree with you on all points Paul.  Not that I was planning on it, but one less reason to do this overpriced race

Never been the slightest bit interested in this race:  Too pricey, too much bad pavement (much of which I knew only too well from bike commuting in the past).

Is it possible to have less than zero interest?  If so, that's my reaction.

The run course is essentially the same as last couple of years ,  the hill on Grand will  still challenge you  and  the only apparent change the location of the second transition   moved a couple of  blocks  ...

The LA Tri was my very first triathlon and so I have an emotional tie to the race.  I have done the oly distance every year.  I do agree that the course changes have not been for the better and that it is a lot of money.  Nevertheless, I continue to do it.

It was also my first triathlon and i  placed every year  i have done it so  heck  it will be hard to resist the call too.

I too did the Sprint last year.  And, you're right--it was the bike course that made it appealing.  To bad, like many other athletic pursuits these days--it seems it has been "Dumbed down" for those not wanting to do a 19.5 mile sprint bike, or deal with relatively small hills.
Unfortunately, I won't be back either.
