Tufts 10K - Run

View Member's Race Log View other race reports
Boston, Massachusetts
United States
Tufts Health Plan
51F / 11C
Precipitation
Total Time = 52m 8s
Overall Rank = 787/4527
Age Group = 50-59
Age Group Rank = 31/473
Pre-race routine:

a little over an hour to get in- easy parking in the garage- drank a water on the way in so needed a bathroom first-started raining pretty hard just as I came over the bridge into Boston. Registered- looked for lost & found meeting place for BTers- wasn't one! so decided to change clothes (too warm)
Event warmup:

jogged & stretched a little- once in "seed group" just tried to keep moving....
Run
  • 52m 8s
  • 6.2 miles
  • 08m 25s  min/mile
Comments:

Very crowded slow start- lots of dodging around etc.. eventual got to a comfortable pace- still a lot of "traffic", tough to know what pace was- gun time vs seed time not known & hrm/watch not working...might not have hurt, but certainly didn't help.Temp was ok- and precip was light to mist during the actual run .Didn't bring my own drink- wish I had- felt a bit off last 1/2 - 3/4 mile...couldn't kick it up much to sprint in- actually felt nauseous at finish -took a few minutes to feel ok & have a drink...
What would you do differently?:

seed in the group ahead. Be tuned in to pace & splits.better pre race nutrition/hydration & bring own mid race drink.
Post race
Warm down:

walked around til nausea passed, drank some water & had a piece of bread (that sat like a rock !)

What limited your ability to perform faster:

I need to be more serious about a plan/nutrition & pacing if I want to truly see what I can do. Too random- on the other hand I enjoyed the crowd, the run itself was fun- I imagined the course on a sunny day...and it was neat to see Joan Benoit-Samuelson in person as well as be inspired by those FAST women!

Event comments:

Fun to experience a race of this size & history...
Met Nikki from BT briefly- nice to put a human face with the virtual training person...!

Congrats isis!!!! sub 8:30 pace is sweet, plus the battle getting thru all the crowd.

I was watching the start on the nooner news and saw all the rain. Sent some BT anti-rain mojo. Cheered on all the BT gals doing great things raising money for a super cause.

Again, great job!! Hope you were able to get warm and dry before the ride home.

Enjoy the endorphins!!!

Excellent pace; maybe in a few years I'll be able to keep up with you! Too bad we couldn't hook up. By the time I finished, I was just ready to get dry and warm.

Nice race and great time. I always wonder how much energy we exert trying swerve around all the people who refuse to seed themselves properly. I started near the front in the hftd half and still spent the first mile dodging people. Oh well.

Tremendous race and keep up the great work.

An anchor could not slow you down! You are like the energiser bunny with twice the batteries. You just keep going, and going!! Way to go! Good luck in Lowell. Unforturnaly cheering at the race will probably have to be put on hold due to new breakes for the car
