Sunday at the Calgary Marathon

http://globalnews.ca/video/583437/gil-record-record-run/

What it doesn't say is that they are going for a 2:57. I have been thinking about it. And at first I was like, well how hard could it be right. I don't know what these guys individual PRs are but, I mean I can do a 4 hour marathon so find me a bunch of 4 hour marathoners and I am sure we could link together and do a 4:15 right? And really, in any given race how many people are going under 3 hours, just find those people and link up. But then I was thinking some more, and man, that marathon is a serious mind mixer right. Like you are a little messed up in the end even if you are taking it easy AND everything goes perfect. Imagine going through all your own negative stuff and then having to deal with everyone else's negative stuff. I guess you get the benefit of everyone's positive vibes too. That would be a heck of a dynamic.

Good luck to them.

It is much harder than it sounds...

I was part of the team at the Lakefront marathon in Milwaukee 2 years ago that broke the overall world record for completing a marathon linked together at 62 runners... which has since been broken by a team in Germany that past summer...

For 10 people to attempt going sub-3 is pretty stellar...

Its a lot more challenging than you think... everyone that starts has to finish, and if one person unclips at any time during the race the entire team is disqualified... actually trying to accomodate bathroom breaks is one of the more challenging elements...

we were running at about a 4:30 marathon pace... however had a few instances where people tripped and fell (and almost had to pull out) as it was hard to see much in front of you... then late in the race our most seasoned marathoner (having completed about 150 marathons) started cramping up badly and the entire team had to basically walk the last 8 miles...

it was a long day, and again, much more challenging than it sounds...

good luck to these guys...

It was a pretty awesome experience... we did it as a fundraiser for Jenny Crain... she was an olympic hopeful from milwaukee that was hit by a car a number of years ago... its been a very long recovery process for her... there have been some articles in RW about her... I think that we ended up raising about $110k for her care... again, pretty cool thing...

They finished, 2:55 or so, all checked in so the record is theirs for awhile.

I'm curious about the 'don't increase your run by more than 10% per week' rule. Is there a minimum mileage under which this doesn't apply?

How should I go about training for the marathon while also building base in the other two events? Doing this seems like it's causing me to break the 10% rule in running.

Yes, the Dual is a little heavier than Cervèlo’s high end counterparts. But…the price is within reach of the masses and it still incorporates all of the design features that make a Cervèlo special.

If you have the desire to get better you should think about implementing some sport rotation into your season. Letting your body focus on one event at time will help it adapt more quickly.
