Subject: Mega Tri in Singapore next year??
Not sure anyone checks this forum anymore, but wondering if any of the Singapore folks know.....Is the 2XU Mega Tri an annual event? Is it going to happen in 2014? Really wanted to do the O2 distance last year (with the 3000m swim and shorter bike than a HIM--up my alley!) but not recovered enough from an injury at the time. If I knew it was on for early next year; I'd adjust my fall training. Please let me know if you know anything!

2XU Megatri Singapore Hey Justin, sorry for the late reply. There won't be a Mega Tri in 2014, unfortunately. Thanks!

Sounds like a no. What about Challenge Taiwan

Grrr...Don't like! Challenge Taiwan is in November, isn't it?? That doesn't work for me. Short notice and I'm training for a half-marathon; haven't been doing much biking. About to go do my "long ride" of 90-100 minutes. That's not going to be enough for a HIM!

The Sing race scene has been such a mess--everything rescheduled or with new sponsorship, lame prizes now that Metasport does the Aquathlon (or Biathlon or whatever). Vietnam Tri appears to have bit the dust. They really touted the new Laguna race in Lang Co (Vietnam) but it was a wash last year--horrid weather, poor course marking, everything really pricy; only a few hundred people showed up. Just not worth it IMO. Guess I'm just looking at the Sprint Series and maybe Bintan again, maybe try to find a HIM in the US in the summer.

19th of April, you are thinking of the IM branded one which is November. This one is in Taidong which is beautiful and from all reports was very well organised last year.

Agreed on the Singapore scene although my complaint is lack of variety (the course is the same no matter who runs it) and the quality of the water. Yes the ones on Bintan are pricey but at least I enjoy them and the family has a great holiday.

Hmm...Taidong is beautiful (lived near Taipei for a year once long ago and traveled there). I'll have to check if that falls during our spring break. Logistics would be a nightmare unless it does....also worryingly close to where I got stung by a REALLY BIG jellyfish, initiating my phobia of them!

Will probably sign up for Bintan. I'm attempting to move on from here but no idea if I'll find a job or where I'll end up, so it might be my last chance to do it.

well if you are still here, lets make it a date for Bintan. Bit scared to go back cause i had a dream race for me this year and did a 2:21. The weather was a little cooler and it made a huge difference.

I will still be here for Bintan as it's before the end of our school year. So I'll sign up if I can swing the logistics. I don't think I have 2:21 in me, though, unless I manage to sneak a motor onto my bike! I cramped badly and didn't have a very good run the year I placed fourth (which was actually my first Oly with a road bike) and my bike wasn't that great either, so I'll definitely be going to better my time and get as close to 2:30 as I can.

I know how well you swim and run so if you ever start to put it together on the bike you'll kill 2:30. Hopefully be able to catch up then

For what it's worth, you can keep an eye on this website: www.racesing.com. It's got details of all of the triathlons in Singapore (along with duathlons etc, plus some other events). Pretty good for planning next years races!

Robbo--

Not sure you are still there but as of today I am in for Bintan. I got the Friday off work so I don't have to do it the last-minute way, entered today. Now trying to get all the rest of the logistics squared away. I am biking my a$$ off but don't know if 2:30 is within reason or not!

For most people, there is a story in how they came to the sport as beginners. Some of the most inspiring of those beginner tales begin with health scares.
