Going back for the full aqua/bike as part of my IMAZ training.
Not looking forward to riding those roads again but it is what it is.
The support at this race is awesome. BEST volunteers!

uhcoog you doing the 70.3? You hoping to qualify for 2016 Worlds?

Keri I went last Sunday and rode the course. It's in pretty rough shape in several spots. 90% of the course is in great shape but 10% is in awful condition. I've raced Redman every year since 2012 and the bad spots are the worst I've ever seen them. I imagine all the flooding had a lot to do with it. I'm keeping my fingers crossed they do some repairs in the next couple of weeks.

The good news is the lake is full and we won't have to swim the middle of the lake!

I'd love to qualify for Worlds.  Really I have 2 athletes I coach doing the full and figured the half would be a decent warm up for IMFL.

I saw on Redman's Facebook page today a discussion about the roads on the bike course. It sounds like there is a chance for either road repairs or alternate bike route. Keeping fingers crossed because the bad sections are really bad this year!

Saw that.  Wish I knew what the definition of "bad roads" is

I've done Redman Half 3x and the roads are legit rough. The last time I raced  it (2012) I got a flat in the first 10 miles. The sag wagon guy who helped me found a huge pebble that had gashed through the tire - sure that could have happened on any surface but I feel like the crazy vibrations and roughness certainly attributed to my flat. From my race report: It was bordering dangerous, I felt like I was on an obstacle course trying not to go down!

One of our local tri teams is saying they are "boycotting" Redman solely because of the road conditions. Which I think is a bit over the top to publicize it like that, but when you have other choices out there I don't blame anyone for this mindset.

Best of luck to everyone heading there next month. I'll be following to see if the road conditions or course changes. I live a few hours away and love OKC - I'd love to do this race again if improvements are made!

I agree.

I was at Redman in 2013. By rough roads you should expect chip seal, pot holes, gravel, grated roads that have not been paved, clumps of asphalt, etc.
Make sure everything on your bike is very secure. The vibration from the road will toss rear hydration and bottles between aero bars.

My issue is that I am currently deployed and training outside is proving difficult, especially on the bike. I have found a safe 10km running loop but I am struggling with the bike training.

With stroke improvements I find that when I try and swim long I have lost any speed gains that I had because my stroke count just creeps up and up. I also feel like I'm running out of air.

I just had a couple of problems, I could count the number of triathlons I had contested at zero. Secondly, I could count on one hand the number of times I had been swimming in the last 17 years.

This program should be used for an athlete who has been following the progression of the Half Iron Distance program and is 12 weeks out from their first Iron distance race.
