Quick question for those of you who did Graniteman.  Did any of you have a bunch of little red bumps appear on your skin some time after the race?  I've got a bunch of little red bumps all over my back and a couple blochy red spots on one of my legs.  I have no idea what it might be, but I only just noticed them today.  My wife said that she saw them some time after the race on Sunday.

I'm hoping it's just something minor from the water.  So, anybody else?

My son had some we noticed after the race.  Some looked like bug bites with a red head in the middle but the splotches were irregular shaped.  Not all had heads.  I'll check w/him to see if they have gone away.  I had no problems.

BTW, nice race!  Neat to be first out of the water!

I'm still working on my race report.

Not me - and I am usually the first to get that sort of thing...  Hope it goes away quickly.

Sounds similar.  I've only got two that are splotchy.  The red bumps are pretty small.  Hrmmm.  Fortunately, they're not really itchy (not yet, at least).  Hopefully, they'll go away soon.

Yes, I have red bumps too, the weird ones are in clusters and some have with a little spot of blood on the top.  I had the same bites a few years ago in Baxter.  That one is a a black fly bite

http://www.extension.umn.edu/yardandgarden/ygbriefs/e601blackflies.html

There were also a fair share of mosquito bites (which we are all familiar with and Biting Midges http://www.dnr.state.mn.us/young_naturalists/biting_bugs/index.html  (the midges are toward the bottom of the page)

Add em all up and I'm pretty sure it's not swimmers itch but a variety of hungry pests. Swimmer's itch shows up in places like waistbands where the water is held against the skin longest.  I'd expect in that case we'd all have it around one ankle for sure, and my chip ankle is devoid of itchiness.  Most of my itchies are in places that were uncovered...except for my rear, I always seem to get a deer fly bite on my rear.  What's up with that?

I got swimmers itch a few years ago and from what I remember you would know it if you got it.  About scratched myself raw it was so uncomfortable.

Something probably just burrowed under your skin to lay its eggs and now they are slowly clawing and scratching the way to the surface to burst out at an incredibly inconveniant time. That's my guess anyway.  Good Luck.

The ones I have are gnat bites. I get them every year in the fall when I start coaching again. Typically they take a week or so to start to clear up, longer if you scratch them a bunch. For some reason they always look worse on the legs than on the arms. Ain't itch creams work ok, or if it is really driving you nuts I have found benadryl (sp) works really well for some relief.

Just a note I call pretty much any small flying annoying biting bugs that aren't mosquitoes or big flies gnats.

Yeah, mine are going away too.  It was a little disconcerting the other day to see so many red spots on my back.  Thanks for the information, everyone.
