Where do you live/work, Brett? When I lived in Atl., I commuted by bike from Druid Hills through Buckhead to Atlanta road, south of Vinings. I loved it, cause I got to feel like a bike messenger during afternoon rush. ANd it was about as fast as driving.

I live in Woodstock and work in Marietta...I have tried to find various routes but they all seem to have a point that is just too dangerous. The most promising is going down Bells Ferry to US 41 but there is a point on the road with no shoulder and a big drop off. I have also thought about going down past Kennesaw St but the Barrett Pkwy traffic is just terrible, so I drive to work!

How about a park and ride strategy?

Just easier to drive to work then ride afterward around the base.....

I meant, like park somewhere halfway, then ride the rest of the way. I worked for a while out in Greyson, and would park in Stone Mountain , ride the rest of the way to work, then ride back to the car in the afternoon.

Its only 18 miles total to work so it wouldn't be worth it, besides I have my (for the most part) private course here around the base with minimal traffic, a couple of good climbs, and its 13.7 miles per loop so I can ride set distances all the while never being more than 3 miles from my car or water, bathroom, etc.

Caveat to that is the only bike wreck I have ever had happened on the base when a lady stopped in front of me and I slid down the road at about 30 mph!

Riding your bike to work is so great. It's a wonderful way to start and end the workday.  It's getting time to invest in some cold weather gear though - high of 48 degrees today!

Every week I say I'm going to commute to work on my bike and never do.  Perhaps next week will be the week   The high gas prices are starting to get to me.
