Pre-race routine:

Got up at 3:00 am. It was raining heavily, including thunderstorms. Went through my checklist about 500 times. Had to leave at 5:00am for the train station. Arrived at Neufeld about 8:00. Got my number and prepared my transition area.
Event warmup:

The oly distance startet at 10 am, after that the sprinters walked to another starting area together. As I didn't have a wetsuit, I carefully tested the water, walking in slowly and doing a few strokes. That was surprisingly easy.
Swim
  • 14m 48s
  • 750 meters
  • 01m 58s / 100 meters
Comments:

There was no kicking at all, everyone was really careful. I waded in at the end and tried to go where there was much room. Swimming felt very easy, had no problems breathing whatsoever. Orientation wasn't a problem, either! I felt fatigue after two thirds of the distance, but not too much and could overtake some slower swimmers. Could do crawl almost all of the time, did some breaststrokes in between to have a better look where I was going.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing!
Transition 1
  • 02m 53s
Comments:

Had no wetsuit so I was pretty fast. Just put on my shirt and tights over my swimsuit, put helmet, socks and shoes on and was ready. Felt very dizzy, though. The transition area was wide-spread so you had to run quite some time to your bike and with the bike to the street.
What would you do differently?:

Again - nothing. For the first time it was perfect!
Bike
  • 43m 8s
  • 20 kms
  • 27.91 km/hr
Comments:

As you can see, I lost a lot on the bike. But I was really going comfortably to save strenght for the running. Didn't know how hard I could do because it was my first tri.
What would you do differently?:

Could have pushed harder.
Have to increase my training for the biking, and for the running, too!
Transition 2
  • 01m 11s
Comments:

Had to get off my helmet and was ready (I already wore my running shoes and shirt). The grass in the transition area was very slippery because of the rain.
Run
  • 28m 36s
  • 5 kms
  • 05m 43s  min/km
Comments:

Lost even more in the running. But I wasn't really pushing myself. I was already satisfied with my time and didn't hurry.
What would you do differently?:

Push a little harder. Would easily have been possible. But I have to train more for the running!
Post race
Warm down:

Ate an apple and got something to drink.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Training and motivation to go to the limits. Just wanted to try out what a tri felt like.

Event comments:

So my première has taken place. I'm very satisfied with it. I even was the third woman overall and won a medal and a bottle of wine. (There were only 6 women, though ;-)).
I think I could have been faster about 5 minutes all in all if I had really tried to go to the limit.
Really have to do more speedwork in biking and do some longer runs.

All in all - a great day!

Yes, it was really fun. I never had thoughts of "I can't go on" or "why am I doing this" as I know them from only-running-races. It was fun from the first second to the last!

Ummmmm, and can anyone please explain to a poor German-speaking girl ;-) what you mean by "hardware"? I've been brooding over it for hours but can't come up with an idea....

Sorry for the confusion.  It's slang for award, medal, trophy, the prize you received for one of the top finishing times.  So again, congrats on the "hardware"!

Aaaaaaaaaaaaaah!!! Thanks a lot!

The only thing I could imagine as "hardware" was the whole stuff like my bike or gear etc. And I couldn't understand why anyone would congratulate me on THAT. *lol*
