Holy Canoli!!

I hurt! on the inside. Sorry to all of you IMFL'ers (if it is your first) but the news is I HURT!!!

my esophogus hurts to swallow... my intestines sorta ache when I jigle them.. my muscles aren't so bad,,, but the bones in my feet, are throbbing, and my shoulders!! omg my shoulders... you my teeth sorta hurt, like if I clinch my jaw down..

ran/walked 2 miles yesterday like my coach said, but PLEEEEEEEEEAAAASSSSEEE

SHARE SOME OF YOU RECOVERY FROM THE PAIN IDEAS. So as to not mix meds, I have only taken 2 ibuprofen this monring. That is for a total of 4 since -

BECAMING AN IRONMAN!!!! just saying that makes me feel a lil better,,,, and smiling doesn't hurt at all.

Congratulations on your race!

I was confused - I actually thought you were hit by a car!

I felt pretty good after my race. I think I took an AdvilPM after the race, and then Aleve for 2 days. I walked around a lot, and I didn't have much pain at all.

Enjoy the recovery period and take it easy.

Congrats again!

Todd..what are you doing running the day after your first IM? Dude let your body recover for what you did.

Most folks don't run for 7-21 days after IM as you need to recover.

What you do to recover...nothing or very very little. Swim a little as that is good for your body as the pressure from water helps with recovery. Maybe later in the week go for an easy spin on the bike.

Here is an article to read about IM recovery.

Another idea to recover is write an awesome race report and post it here on BT.

Congrats on crushing your goal!!  That's a fantastic time!

And what the hell is your coach thinking having you run/walk within a day or two after the race???

Walking is great. Don't run though. Ice bath or float around the pool would be good as well. Wait another day or two and get a massage. Although if you want to win 100K on Americans funniest home movie, go get a deep massage today and tape it

thanks for the note..... coming from you it means alot. You have never posted to me, but I read your posts all the time.

Actually I had 2 of my respected leaders recommend that run to get the blood flowing, but it hurt, so I walked most of it.

the bones in my feet hurt. I am a runner for the most part. But I think that wear and tear prior to the marathon just wore me down to the nub.

Kathy,
you are on me about these race reports all the time. I realize I have filled one out for something before, but I can;t figure out how to do it. I have an errand to run, and then maybe we can hook up for a few and you can show me.

a massage!!! LOL! maybe an Active Release Treatment visit too eh! hahahaa

I AM AN IRONMAN!! I am soo excited. thanks spo much to this place.... what a thing... ok ok ok I am noit going to start crying again....
hahhaha

Nothing will make your legs feel better than doing many sets of stadium stairs. I would recommend single steps going up and double steps coming down. If there is no stadium in your area then stand with your back to a wall, spread your feet to shoulder width and very slowly slide your back down the wall until your knees and hips are bent 90 degrees and hold that position for 3 or 4 minutes.

You had me going with your thread title, I thought you really were dragged by a car.

I hope I'm not to late, DON"T DO THE ABOVE RECOVERY IDEAS!!

DUDE!  M A S S A G E today! NOW NOW NOW!

After a few marathons I learned the clue to no muscle owie after an endurance event is to get the massage right after and then continue it on my own from time to time every few hours over the next few days (leg rubs -- quads and calves, sitting at a desk, at a trafic light, etc.)  I have never (out of two IMs) had an ache or pain or soreness after the event which was worth mentioning to anyone once I discovered the massage tent was there for a reason.

Just DO IT!

PLEASE!

You're welcome!

And I would recommend some nice easy swimming.

After LP we stayed there for the rest of the week basically and I went out on Tuesday and did a full loop of the swim course (wasn't planning to originally, but it felt good).  Zero impact on the body from pounding and got the blood flowing to help heal up those billions of micro-tears in the muscles.

Glad you're feeling better! I loved the quote I overheard in the airport after IMWI last year. "It's a GOOD hurt"!!
