Subject: Endurance sports can get you in to full races?
So, I see endurance sports has entries to 2009 races that are full.   But at a premium.  For example, Nov IMAZ is $800 to register.   I was not aware of this little racket.......   (by racket I mean that these are not "tickets" that Glah bought and are scalping, clearly there is some arrangement with WTC on this)

As I get more involved in this sport and hear about corporate spots, sponsor spots, etc, it's interesting to me to see how many different ways there are to get into an IM

They have been doing this for years.  I'm sure Ken's relationship with IM doesn't hurt.

Oh, I'm sure it's not a recent development.  I just find it odd that the fact that he's reselling the spots at a profit (not that I care, business is business after all, and business is all about relationships and contacts) has never come up on ST (that I have seen) or here

Actaully, I am more surprised it just hasn't come up since it's a viable (altho expensive) alternative to CF slots.

I'm sure it's come up at some points in the past as I think that's how I first learned about it.  But, yeah, it doesn't get much "air time"--probably due to the cost.

No $800 is registration only accdg to the website

And I've done an IM as a CF.  But that is all a charitable donation over and above the $550.

The lads over at IM Talk Podcast just interviewed Ken on their most recent show. It was very interesting and made me want to go do a destination race using his company.

I had a friend do IM Brazil with his company and had a great time. All the athletes really bonded and they were there supporting her even though she traveled alone and she is a BOPer. She did some travel after the race with some of the athletes.
