Subject: race advice, not sure which to pick!
so this coming weekend will be my last racing weekend before my goal half the last weekend of sept.

training has been going well most of hte summer, only one race since june 8th, so been a VERY light racing year for me.

trying to decide what race(s) to do this coming weekend.

options right now are:

one local sprint
two local sprints (one sat, one sun)
local HIM
local HIM aqua bike
sprint and aqua bike.

leaning towards either the HIM or two sprints, but not sure.

would i be better off training harder, just doing the sprtints, and and not having to worry about hte recovery after the half? is a 5 weeks out long enough away that the down week after the half wont hurt things too much?

thoughts?

let me rephrase this.

would doing a HIM right now screw up training too much (i am coming off 5 build weeks right now), would have a few more workouts, 3-4 days easier, race, recover, start training again.

i am moving/starting a new job in the days right after the HIM so that might be some forced down time anyway?

oh well just thinking outloud.

How would you plan on doing the HIM? Would you treat it as a pretty long workout with lower intensity or would you be looking to go at HIM paces just without a taper?

I think it depends on how you approach the races.  For me, I'd do the two sprints, but just not go quite all out.

I would do the half, and practice exactly what you expect to do for your A race in Sept. Same watts and try out the run pace you want to hit. If you booger it...oh well. Better now than Sept

regardless of what i am doing this weekend, i am planning on racing hard.

i;ve had a pretty low volume race year for me, (right now have done 5 races so far vs the 10 or so i am normally at right now), and a lot more training so far.

i guess what i am trying to decide is will doing the Half mess up training to much, or will it fit in nicely with an easy week after it.

if i race the two sprints i am shooting for overall placings in both.

do you think with it being this early that it is enough time to A not mess up scheduling too much with the longer recovery afterwards?

i agree with having a race now to practice what i plan to do in sept.

I would say that 5 weeks would be cutting it close if you are going to go all out next weekend.
If you do it at 80% or so, your recovery won't be as long and you are less likely to hurt yourself.
Two sprints would probably be easier to recover from.

However, I haven't done an HIM, so I can't say.

Newbz

How was your recovery after Rockman?
You have not run (or at least logged it) 13mi since that race in early June. Do you think that maybe racing the HIM and hopefully having a solid run might take a bit more than a week to totally get over a half marathon with what seems to be not a huge focus on running? You know how well you recover from your efforts, but maybe riding the bike at A race pace and then doing the 1st 4/5 miles of the run at your A race goal pace then shutting it down. Basically doing the HIM but not race pace for all 3 legs.

i was training full time again within 6 days, intervals back in about 8 days out.

run and swim were fine within a few days, bike took a bit longer.

i have only run 13 mile once this year;-)

its not so much that racing that close is the part i am worried about, but rather would it be more worth it to train, and then just race the last half,

also looking at this from a race results standpoint and what i want ot have on there.

hmmmm
