Subject: gift for a mountain biker?
my bro's birthday is coming up. unfortunately we're not that close, but he does mountain bike....  Not even sure what he reallyhas, but I'll try to find out.  Anyone have cool gift ideas for a mtn biker?

If he doesn't have a Camelback with a ton of extra storage, that would be a good one.  I'm shopping for that.  

Or maybe a gift card to Blue Sky Cycling  They usually have a ton of good deals and their customer service has been really good.

I've also purchased from Pricepoint and Jenson USA. While I have found better deals at Blue Sky, it's always been hit or miss. Jenson and Pricepoint seem to have more consistent good pricing and have a better selection.

Without knowing what type of riding he's into and what he already has I offer any more help.

ETA: Regarding camelbacks/bags, if you haven't learned this yet, figure out what size you think you need then buy the next larger one. Often if you are filling a bag to the max it isn't very comfortable to wear. If it's only 3/4 full it's more comfortable and usually the larger bags have better padding/suspension.

They're kind of expensive sometimes, but if he's a serious mountain biker and ever bikes in the late days/evenings, those big heavy-duty bike headlights made for mountain bikes are really great gifts (and safety-conscious!).  Or maybe if he doesn't ride in the evenings, he'll try it now. 

Here in AZ we have a few 24-hour mountain bike races (team relays), so all of the local bike shops sell those light setups.  Not sure if all LBSs would carry them, but it might be something worrth looking into...

The big one around here right now is THIS ONE

I have used one, and they are awesome.   For the $$$, you can't go wrong.

I haven't mountain biked lately, but when I did, a really good first aid kit came in handy more times than I would have liked.  I keep it in the trunk of my car 24/7.

Road ID do a dog tag ID with a mtb detail on the front. I bought one a while ago for my husband and he loves it.

You can put whatever details on the back that you like. They are about $20 and are great. I don't know if you are close enough to know what to put on the back, but you could maybe buy a voucher or something?
