I'm gonna be making a trip over the Turkey Day holiday from Detroit (my previous home) to Denver (my current home). Since I have a few days to kill, I thought I would take a little time to enjoy the trip. So tell me COJ, what are the must-see places between Detroit and Denver?

If I had the time to make that trip I'd probably head down old Route 66 to Route 50 and take in some of the old US Highway system and see some Americana for the holiday. Good travelog here;

It all depends on what route you decide to take!  If you take I-80 all the way across, it's a pretty boring drive.  Only a couple things I can think of along that route:  World's Largest Truckstop in Walcott, Iowa (about 20-30ish miles into Iowa - not super exciting, but good for some wasted time.  We were here a lot in college.), and possibly the Field of Dreams in Dyersville, Iowa (that would take you like 50 miles-ish out of your way).

If you take I-55 south through Illinois to I-72 through Missouri, my bet is that there's more to see, but a little longer distance, and you could see Kansas City (if you have any desire to).  If you go this way, you must stop in Springfield, IL at D'Arcy's Pint and eat the biggest horseshoe you can.  Mmmmmm...  That's my hometown goodness clogging your arteries! Laughing  Miss it!

Regardless, best of luck on your extremely long voyage!

Somewhere in Nebraska or South Dakota (can't remember which side of the border) there is the guy that has the cars standing on end, stuck in the ground like an automotive Stonehenge.

Wall Drug in South Dakota...and Mt Rushmore too, if you take that route.

My brother-in-law drives from Denver to Minneapolis frequently. He claims there is a bridge to no where in the middle of Nebraska somewhere...

Since you're closeby, I would say stop at Whizzzzz and Coredumps' place, then Schmize's, then jszat's (he can get the Milwaukee Donkai contingency to greet you), then a short jaunt just outside Mad-town to see us Donkai here (AJ, Craiggers and I, for three, would be very happy to see you), RAHHHHHH BEEEEEEEN!!!!!

If you can stand the boredom of the drive, seems like 90 at least as far as Rapid City is a good idea for all of the Black Hills stuff (as mentioned).  If you've never seen Mt Rushmore, then definitely. The Badlands are cool too.

HOWEVER, 90 can easily close if there is snow.  The wind whips across and I would bet it's closed a handful of times every year.  You might get stuck in some godforsaken town in west Minnesota.  So I only recommend that with a check of the weather right before you go.

I have made the trip from Denver to Detroit many times to visit my sister.  But I can't recall anything worth seeing on the way there.  Oh yeah, it's always been by air!
