Talk about the strangest thing happening in my life.

Thursday afternoon I'm driving south on the highway just south of Sun Valley to go on a service call (I work on Mac computers). A cop pulls me over for going 41 in a 35. So I hand over all my info to him. He goes back to his car and starts taking forever. I'm walkie'ing my partner over our nextel phones about how he's taking forever. I'm thinking to myself that the cop was like, if you're in such a hurry i'll show you. So after about 20 mins of waiting on the side of a highway as rush hour passes me by another cop car pulls up.

Both officers get out and come to either side of the car and ask me to get out of the car. I do so and they start asking me questions about Rexburg Idaho. I had no idea of what they were talking about. So they say I have a warrent out for my arrest! I was pretty shocked considering i've been to Rexburg once or twice 2-3 years ago is all. The warrent was for possesion of pot. I've never done a drug in my life.

So right there on the highway with everyone driving by (it's a small community) I get cuffed, and arrested and put in the back of a police car (not very comfortable at all).

After getting to the police station they find out another guy around my age, brown hair brown eyes like me, and with the EXACT same name (first middle and last) was arrested for the charge. After seeing my SS# and DOB didn't match they let me go with a ton of sorrys. My partner was waiting there to pick me up because someone else in our building saw me being arrested and told him about it seconds after it happened. It's not around town that I got arrested. How embarassing!

I can just imagine the cop thinking "yeah right" when I told him I didn't do it, never have done drugs and it wasn't me. Probably thinking I've heard that before.

Do you have a really common name or is the other guy an identity thief as well as a pothead?

And I always thought a SS# was useless.  Guess I was wrong.

how bazaar. you'd think dob would have been checked off the licence. i had a $500 energy charge added to my bill once. this was before i was married. turns out there was some woman who used the alias 'autumn' something, and also another with a different first name, and the last name 'clark'. didn't use the two names together, but had used the two names at one point or another. she had skipped town on her bills in several states. since my name matched up close enough, they decided to send me her bill. had to prove that i had been living in oregon during the time frame she had been in the midwest. i ended up getting an advocate to help with the case because the power company was so rude about the whole situation. innocent until proven guilty, right?

Wow- I didn't realize how often innocent people get mistaken.  Glad my name is unique- I doubt anyone comes close to my name, so hopefully I'll be safe.

Well my full name is Bradley Edwin Thompson, not that normal especially the middle name. They were very nice after they figured it out, but nice the whole town thinks I got arrested.

I hate cops.

From "Guidelines for a Healthy Discussion"

* Be specific
Few things are more intellectually irritating (not to mention worthless) than reading some uncautious and poorly thought out claim such as "Liberals never care about truth", or "The conservative mindset precludes empathy". If you happen to be a fan of the TV show "Crossfire" and think the quality of discourse there is just peachy, then you might perhaps be more at home on some other site. Such generalizations are never really true, and they merely function as cliches which let the writer off the hook - he doesn't have to think, it's already done for him.
