Subject: Dog & Cat themed potluck ideas

I am attending a "Dog & Cat" themed potluck party this weekend and would love some help with ideas on what to bring.  Somebody already mentioned bringing hotdogs and hush puppies.  It can be dog and/or cat in the name of the dish, or presentation (i.e. cookies in a dog treat jar).  

I do have a couple friends who are gluten and/or dairy free, and would like to take something that everyone can enjoy.  Thanks!

have you looked on pinterest? I can't access at work, but if you google like dog cat themed food - the first few results are pinterest boards

Thanks.. I noticed the same thing but also can't get to pinterest at work.  This might have to wait until I get home this evening :-)

it had some cute ideas - fresh strawberries that could be made to look like mice with almond slivers and licorice

It doesn't score very high on the nutrition scale, but my students enjoyed it when a mom brought one in for a birthday--google Litter Box Cake. As I recall it involves Oreo crumbs and various other goodies.

My sister's favorite halloween potluck dish (which, once you read you will understand, could be used for this):

Cook a batch of brownies - but leave them slightly underdone. Roll them into small logs (3 inches by 1/2 inch diameter). Place them on a bed of chopped nuts. She called them "Litterbox treats"

I suppose you could do the same with some green coconut flakes instead of chopped nuts.  (Maybe have a baggies to pick up the treats?)  

Other associations to tie in to pet themes...

catnip--mint
kibble--cookie pieces or cookie dough

Even serve regular food in dog bowls.

You could take "puppy chow". It's a hit at parties in the Midwest especially around the holidays.

Bring a couple random Chinese take-out dishes in the foam containers.  Draw a dog on one, and a cat on the other...
