Elite 4583 | Subject: 7.18.17 Tuesday Training! Good morning BT! 5:30am: :30 minute easy run 6:00am: :30 minutes strength stuff + core Heading to Salt Lake City with my older daughter today--dorm room shopping and TATTOOS! Something you may not know about me is that even though I look like a sweet little English teacher, I love tattoos! This will be my 4th tattoo. My daughter and I are getting matching ones on our right foot. Mine will say 'I gave her wings' with a smattering of delicate birds and hers will say 'she taught me how to fly' with the same delicate birds. Robert--congrats on signing up for a race! That's exciting! Karen--hard to believe you'll be heading back to Saigon already--that's gotta mean the new school year is getting closer.... Have a great day BT! |

399 | Subject: RE: 7.18.17 Tuesday Training! Humid run this morning at 0600 - 4 miles. Felt good, just really humid this time of year in the mid-west. Thanks Kim! I'm very excited to get back into it! Everything is feeling really good so far, so hopefully it sticks a while this time around! My secret goal is a full Ironman when I turn 40, which is two years from now (just turned 38 last Tuesday). |

62 | Subject: RE: 7.18.17 Tuesday Training! Kim - love the tattoo idea!! My mom freaked out when I got mine (and I was 33!) Haaahahaha. Have my next race on 10/1 and am starting my 12-week training program today. I'm determined to conquer freestyle, learn how to ride my new bike (the clip-less pedals feature has me a bit freaked out) and have enough energy to not walk at all during the run. So, today it's swimming in the afternoon (and I have to stick with freestyle!) and I'll be joined by my husband (also training) and my daughter and bonus daughter, both of whom have their first tri on 7/30. |

Have fun with the mother/daughter moment. I don't have any tattoos. My wife asked me if I was getting an IM tattoo after doing Louisville IM. She was surprised when I said "no". She has seen so many IM tattoos at races and assumed I would get one. Have a great day BT! |

I have nothing against the tattoos, in fact I like checking them out at races. |

Master 8248 Eugene, Oregon | Subject: RE: 7.18.17 Tuesday Training! No need to panic! I'm heading back about a week earlier than normal this year for a couple of reasons-- mix-up with family moving plans and a cat care issue. Originally thought we would be moved by late July, and I could only get a round-trip ticket to Eugene reimbursed, so Mom and I had decided we'd drive back to Eugene for the hometown Oly, then I'd fly out to Vietnam soon after and she would drive back to Idaho. But she ended up delaying house-hunting till I returned and now they aren't moving till mid-September (the previous owners are building a house and will be renting from us till then). Plus my cat-sitter is retiring and had to turn over their care early to a friend this week due to family issues. Need to get back and check up on my fur kids! I don't think I have to be back at work till August 2 or 3. Last day of hard training here before taking it a bit easier this week. I think I went into my last race too tired so trying a bit more taper this time. 1:30 trainer ride with 36 minutes of nasty pickups (building to 100%+) 17 minute brick run after bike |

I can't wait to pick mine out next weekend. 10.5 mile run tonight. THE HEAT...my god.... The best part (if you're squeamish don't read on), was when I was talking to a guy at a red light while eating a gel block, and when I started coughing a chunk of it went into my nasal passages. I snorted and sucked but it wouldn't come out, until I blew one hell of a sugary snot rocket. That's right, that big chunk of spearmint flavored sweetness went all the way through. One hell of a magic trick. |

Master 8248 Eugene, Oregon | Subject: RE: 7.18.17 Tuesday Training! OMG--I got a free sample of those spearmint Shot Blocks at CDA and on Sunday finally persuaded myself to try them. I don't like most sweets very much, gag on most gu, and had a previous nasty experience with another flavor of chomps. Thought they would taste like toothpaste-flavored gummy bears, but actually they weren't bad--kind of a sour kick to them, and reminded me vaguely of a mojito (well, in gummy form). I was finishing up the tube on my brick today and contemplating if this is something I might be able to get down in a race situation. But your story gives me pause!
