I definitely can NOT handle getting up at 4-5 a.m. for a workout, especially in winter. I much prefer to burn the midnight oil and do a late night training run, even if it's after 11 p.m. Same would go for the biike if I had a light. Swims I get in after work. Any other night owls?

I CAN NOT function after 10 at night. I like to be in bed by 9:30. I much prefer to get up at 5 and workout. Though, if I had my druthers, I would be so rich I wouldn't have to work, and could sleep in (I LOVE sleeping in) and workout any old time I felt like it

I used to be. Get off work, go home for a bit, hit the gym about 9-10pm for 1-2 hours.

The last month I've become a morning person, getting up at 4:30-5:00.

What changed?

- Work. I have to be in at 8, where before I would come in around 9-9:30.

- Life. Got a girlfriend. She likes to see me in the evenings, so I can spend time with her as I've already worked out for the day.

- Life. Once I got past a week or two of adjusting, I feel like my day starts strong, and I have more zip when I workout in the morning.

- Life. Previously mentioned girlfriend starts work at 5:00 most days, so we're getting up at the same time.

It just works out better for me this way. As with most answers here, go with what works for you. I used to be a diehard night-owl, but have defected to the other side, and now am an Early Bird.

Another benefit to mornings at this time of year, is that it is a lot less crowded at 5:00 AM than at 5:00 PM!

Early Bird!  Gotta wake up before the rest of the world and get that workout done!

By nature I am more of a late nighter.  However, I have to be at work at 06:30 so I already get up too early.  I like to be in bed around 9:00 (it takes me an hour to unwind) and lights out at 10:00.  If I miss my little window that I have gotten used to I will be up until 12 or 1.   I keep telling myself I will start getting up earlier and get in a work out but I have trouble getting up now at 4:40!

I am another early bird but definitely not a rooster; there is no way that I could get up to train at 4:00 or 5:00 in the morning.  Six am is the perfect time for me to get up and swim, bike or run.  The only physical activity I will do after dinner would be to go for a walk with my honeybunch or cuddling!

Depends... Running I like to do either at 5:00AM or 9:00PM mostly because it's dark and no one can see me run *kidding* Cycling works best right after work, or first thing in the morning on weekends. Weights - 5:00AM. Swimming - right before bed... So um, pretty much whenever I can get to it. Depends on the work schedule and dog coverage between Wifey and me. Overall preference first thing in the morning.

I'm a card carrying Night Owl. A dream work schedule for me would be about noon to 8pm, and then workout after that. I will admit that the handful of times I've been up for an early morning workout, I feel good from it most of the day.

My bike rides are too time consuming to do early in the morning, and I need food in me before I ride for any length of time. Swimming is a bit of a hassle to dress, drive to the pool, swim, drive home....all before I would normally be getting up. Running I can do pretty easily in the morning. Just lace 'em up and head out the door.

I have been better lately about getting to bed early enough to get the sleep I require. I really need around 8 hours to feel good.

I have to get up early to workout, it gets me going for the day. It helps alot cause i have morning classes and a workout before my class keeps me awake. If i dont then i fall asleep in class... and i kinda need to be awake

I fall apart at 10:00...I wake up at 5:00 most every day, unless the insomia demons attack me, which still happens too often. I keep waiting for my sleep to be regular with all this exercise, but still haven't seen it yet....

Night owl -- and not even a good one as my body needs very little sleep on a daily basis (about 5 hours)... so I usually sleep at 1or 2 am and up for work by 6:30. BUT... I have started swim training ( or trying ) and my pool is really busy after work and closes about 9pm, so I am going to adjust my schedule backward by an hour.

The problem is that I am really cranky in the morning :-O , I need no-one to talk to me for about an hour in the morning, so pool is OK because everyone is working.

Early birder here. Typical day(like today) up at 3:30 or so, a cup of coffee, check out BT ect. on the net listen to Sirius and then around 5:30 wake up the wife and teen daughter to get them going. Depending on the time of year a short ride, say 30-45 minutes or if its winter like now a run for the same amount of time. I teach so I can use the pool at school after I am finished with classes. As the day lengthens I will be able to add rides during the week instead of just weekends. Can't wait for spring.
