I know that it is disappointing now, but after you actually do have a marathon under your belt it will just be a funny story to tell. You'll never stress over it again. I wish all problems were like that!
Fortunately, the marathon isn't going anywhere and there numerous chances to redeem yourself.
I would email the race organizers and tell them 1 ) the course was not marked well enough and that you found yourself off course 2. ) let them know the pacers were NOT accurate. Pace groups are a draw for a lot of people. I look to see if there are pace groups provided before signing up. They should know if theirs aren't doing what they were designed to do. That could have ruined a lot of peoples races.
Sorry to hear about your story, but again, it won't matter soon enough.
