Well, I posted the deatils of my crappy Sunday marathon.

Perhaps there is a lesson in there for someone else.  I felt mentally strong...but somewhere, somehow, I got very mentally weak.

Well, I certainly didn't see the sign if it was there.  I guess I just got caught up in the group and when we moved left...I moved left.  In mind there was no split...since I never looked at teh half course, I just knew there was a turnaround and then a straight shot to the finish.

Probably having people on both sides of the crowd would have been helpful...I can't imagine I am the only one this happened to.  But possibly.

Man, that sucks! I'll bet you weren't the only one, strange that they would have two different turnarounds on the same stretch of road without having them clearly marked and distinguished.

By clearly, I mean clear enough so the error rate is zero.

I think, other than the course direction SNAFU, you ran well, without the Garmin.

Especially with the pace group misleading you at the start. While reading the RR, I fully expected you to crash at the end due to the fast pace at the beginning.

My thoughts, too.  Shows you were ready, at least.

That's what I was thinking, seeing at mile 20 at a sub 4 pace and listing a 6:00 time, I thought "my, that is quite the blowup.  well done!"

I agree with what everyone else said, sax. You can't be disappointed given the effort you turned out. I know that it is disappointing now, but after you actually do have a marathon under your belt it will just be a funny story to tell. You'll never stress over it again. I wish all problems were like that!

Fortunately, the marathon isn't going anywhere and there numerous chances to redeem yourself.

I would email the race organizers and tell them 1) the course was not marked well enough and that you found yourself off course 2.) let them know the pacers were NOT accurate. Pace groups are a draw for a lot of people. I look to see if there are pace groups provided before signing up. They should know if theirs aren't doing what they were designed to do. That could have ruined a lot of peoples races.

Sorry to hear about your story, but again, it won't matter soon enough.

ahhh don't sweat it dude, it sounds like you were havin a solid race anyways before you got off course.  I bet a lot of ppl did the same thing with all the commotion around.  At least you had the decency to wait for your group to make it back up to you, I bet 90% of the other runners would have never done that. (ex. Fin Man!! haha sorry)

You achieved your goal, right?  Why fret over the small stuff.  In fact, you can say you overcame adversity and, but for getting off course, you would have done 3:45 probably.

I feel for you. I did a half marathon last year with a badly marked course and a number of us went too far before we turned back and finally found our way. Whether you lose time or gain I know we all want a straight race
