I just stumbled on this and was trying to figure out how you determine if you are a Clydesdale?  Is there some BMI type formula?  I have dropped 97 pounds since last year but still have about 25 or more to go, best guess.

BTW...doing my first Sprint Tri (.8K Swim/25K Bike/5K Run) and nervous as all get out.  Been working hard though for the last few months and I think I am ready.  Just hoping not to get the DFL award.

For most races (if offered) it is 200 for Clyde and 150 for Athena.

Be careful - are your logs accurate?

Even if they are not - don't get into trying to "race" - so to speak - in your very first race! Chalk it up to experience. Your goal(s) should be the following: 1.) Enjoy the day 2.) take your time (you can breastroke or backstroke during the swim), thank the volunteers, run the 5k at a slow and easy pace 3.) don't get injured - if you take your time you'll be ok 4.) finally - finish the race.

Good luck this weekend.

Sorry - that was my response to your logs and not your question.

The answer to your question is dudes over 200lbs and females over 150lbs.

I have my first tri scheduled for sept and would be tickled with DFL because at least that means I finished my goals for the first on is 1. don't drown 2. don't fall off the bike and 3. finish the run  after that I may worry about times  by the way I have seen it here  that DFL>DNF>DNS  congrats on the weight loss keep up the good work

Trust me, DFL is not that bad. Focus on having fun and finishing - if you are last (only one person gets that) then enjoy it.

I know that's how we (racers) refer to it, but I recently found out it's actually Did Finish Last.

Which, IMO, sounds just a bit better.

Hey someone has to finish last and if it was not me than it maybe someone with a much more fragile sense of self esteem (like some skinny 15 year old girl) Its really more of a community service on my part.  and a DNF is always better than a DNS period no questions asked.

I haven't been last in a race, but I'm ALWAYS last in my training group's runs... Most of the time I don't mind it's just part of the overweight package deal.

My fear with being last in a race is just being alone out there not so much worried about being last. Now that I've done a few tris I don't worry about it much if it happens it happens. I just signed up for a 15k run that I very well might be the last woman standing.

We don't have a Clydesdale catagory up here that I know of, but my goal for my first tri is not have a D.. which is a DNS DNF or DFL and I succeeded.

I checked the application for the one I'm doing and I don't see a Clydesdale category either.  I'm pretty confident I won't end up with a DNF or DNS.  I completed the bike portion in training yesterday.  28.7 miles but I only averaged 14.5 mph.  I did the run tonight.  6.2 miles at 13.8 miles/min.  I have two months to hopefully figure out how to do those faster.  I'm going to swim a mile tomorrow morning in order to establish my baseline for the swim.
