Subject: CO2 cartridges size
Hey everyone

So I apologize if this has already been discussed as I was unable to find it, but what size CO2 cartridges do you guys use when you get a flat on the road. I recently bought a P2 ultegra and I have the stock wheels (700 x 23C). Would a 12g cartridge be enough to inflate it to get me back home? Or would I need a 16g cartridge? Thanks

12g will probably get you home if you're careful.   The pressure will be low, so you'll risk pinch flats.  If you're efficient when filling, 16g will get you to 130psi.  The chart is here:

Those charts are great if you can put all the air into the tire every time.
If it gets cold, you won't get those pressures and if you're in a race you don't just want enough to limp home, you want your tire right.

Generally, if you're using 23mm tires, use a 16 GM CO2 cartridge. You end up with about 120 PSI and that's along the lines of "normal" fill up.

If you're just using them for training and don't much care, it doesn't really matter which one you use.

A 12g will get you to about 90-95psi.  Probably a little lower than "ideal", but plenty to get you home (or finish your race) safely.  In training, I use a hand pump that probably doesn't get me much higher than that anyway.

Speaking of the cartridges, does anyone know what the thread size on these are?
It burns me up that bike stores are charging 2-3 bucks EACH for these threaded carts, while you can get a box of 5 (12g I think) for about that much at wally world, unthreaded, and the only difference is the threads on the tip.
Its why I have a frame pump instead. I keep meaning to look into this, but just haven't gotten around it it yet.

You can get a CO2 inflator that accepts non-threaded cartridges as well.

I bought a box of 30 16g threaded cartridges on Ebay for about $1.30 each.

Is there one that has a trigger, instead of all at once? The few with a trigger that I have seen only use the threaded.

Accepts everything and has a trigger:

Just thought I'd point out that if you are riding 650 wheels you need the 12 g. I have those and blew out my only spare tube with a 16. I did not know better.
