Yeah, me too.

If I was blessed enough to be a professional athlete or celebrity someone looked up to, I would be all over this kind of stuff.

Too many divas out there, IMO (but also a great deal that do a lot of charity work).  It's not like they are working 8-9 hour days, so how hard can it be to show up for something like this?  It's only time.  I would love to show up and do something like that for a kid if it meant that much to them.

I remember seeing an interview with Chipper Jones after Charles Barkley made the "I am not a role model" statement.  Chipper was asked if he felt he was a role model.  He said "Being an athlete doesn't make me a role model, being an adult makes me a role model".

On the one hand, this is awesome...

But maybe it's a sign of how bad the MLS is that one of their teams got beat by a bunch of 8 year olds...

He was spot on. I personally do what I can myself. But an athlete or celebrity can make even more of an impact. I doubt a kid would ask Make A Wish to play soccer with me and have 3000 people show up. As adults, we should all strive to be roll models. As a celebrity, I would take advantage of the opportunity to do it even on a grander scale.

That is awesome.... All the way around, even for Aticus to want his team there for all they have done.

....and we had that thread not too long ago with Tyler Phinny who did that ride for his dad. I posted that Nike "Alarm clock" commercial... and I wondered why, we don't have a sticky in COJ of just plain old jerk a tear inspirational stuff. I mean, I'm just surprised it has not been thought of already.

The Cornhuskers led that touchdown run of that kid.... can't we have a sticky of good stuff???

I tend to take even more notice when it's kids with cancer. I lost a parent to it when I was little and fought it myself so it hits close to home. I never had any doubts of recovery, but thought even if I did lose, I had 40 plus great years. An 8 yr old with it? All kinds of wrong in that. There have been many other good stories as well. I was touched over the video of the classmates cheering on the student with MS running a 400 with the mom crying in the back ground. I wouldn't mind seeing something more regular like that. Unfortunately, it seems like this kind of stuff isn't as popular as complaining and fighting over politics, gun laws, religion, or any other rant de jour.

Yeah, a feel good thread would be a good sticky. I think the best ones are the spontaneous ones like the MS 400 run that Kido mentioned. That was completely some girl saying "I'm gonna go run this with him and get him through this." And then the other kids realized it and joined in. Or the other one with the kid who kept giving the ball to the kid from the other team so he could make a shot. Good stuff.
