Subject: RE: Thoughts on SwimbuoysI have a safety buoy, too, for training. I love it. There are still isolated open water places where I won't swim without a buddy, but at an inland beach with other people around, I will swim on my own with the buoy. I have the Xterra one. It has a built-in dry bag and it's orange and hot pink.
I live in Ohio and there are a lot of state parks with man-made lakes where there are lots of boaters who are supposed to stay out of the swimming area. I swim out near the buoys to avoid the kids playing beach ball, and the safety buoy makes me less nervous when I hear a boat.
As an added bonus, when I swim at the quarry with a friend, it's easier for my friend to swim straight because he can see me with much less effort.
At first I found it really annoying, but I adjusted it so the buoy is approximately at my knees when I'm standing and it doesn't seem to interfere with my kick at all. |
