Expert 1238 Denver, Colorado | Subject: RE: Team Crazy 8's Max you should have picked a longer bike goal. You'll be done in two weeks at this rate. While we're on the subject, what happens if we pass our goal? Do we get a penalty, or extra credit, or nothing? -dave |

I'm in the same boat as you (not the Ironman boat - the taking a week off boat) I'm on vacation the last week of July, so planning on getting all my stuff done before then. Your goals shouldn't be a problem then, since you can add in all that race mileage |

Champion 4902 Ottawa, Ontario | Subject: Team Crazy 8's - July 5 I looked at everyone's logs and they were all in metric! Is this because my log is set to metric or is everyone logging on in metric? If the latter, then I can revise the goals to reflect that; this would make my task easier as I would not have to do the convertions. Today's standings: 1. Machiavelo (captain) - Swim 10,000 meters, bike 250 miles, run 25 miles To date: Swim 1,600 meters, bike 40 miles, 10.56 miles 2. skavoovie - Swim: 24,000 meters, bike 400 miles, Run/Pool Run 12 hours To date: Swim 0, Bike 63.98, run 0 3. nliedel - 13000 meters, bike 180 miles, run 129 miles To date: Swim 1554.48 meters, bike 15 miles, runs 14.2 miles 4. Max - Swim 10,000 yards, bike 400 miles, run 60 miles To date: Swim 6,675.12 meters, bike 110 miles, run 6 miles 5. rsqdvr - Swim 10,000 meters, bike 120 miles, run - 20 miles To date: Swim 1,600 meters, bike 34.3 miles, run 3.1 miles 6. TriMom3 - Swim 8,000 yards, bike 250 miles, run 35 miles To date: Swim 0, bike 33.7 miles, run 3.5 miles 7. Harmony - Swim 15,000 yards, bike 100 miles, run 20 miles To date: Swim 0, bike 6 miles, run 2 miles 8. cadreamer - Swim 10,000 yards, bike 120 miles, run 10 hours To date: Swim 1,188.72m, bike 12.87 KM, Run: 1h 15m Edited by Machiavelo 2005-07-05 7:09 AM |

Buttercup 14334 | Subject: RE: Team Crazy 8's - July 5 Machiavello, Tootall will be joining your team. I will need a final tally of everyone's goals (PM them to me). It's easier for me to read single PM's from each Captain instead of hunting for goals (some scattered through a thread) in all 10 threads. THANKS! |

Regular 66 Atlanta, Georgia | Subject: RE: Team Crazy 8's Hello all, I was assigned to you guys. (What have I done??) I am just getting going - I did the Danskin sprint in May and have been sitting on my butt till yesterday when I did the Peachtree Road Race 10K. I need some motivation to get back training so I signed up for this challenge. However, my times/distances aren't anything close to what you guys are doing. Is this ok? Also, do I need to put distance or will time suffice? Thanks. |

However, my times/distances aren't anything close to what you guys are doing. Is this ok? Also, do I need to put distance or will time suffice? Thanks. Welcome to the Crazy 8's. It is my understanding that all challenge participants are setting goals in the increments they feel most comfortable, i.e. time or distance. Since you are "challenging" yourself to meet standards, nothing is too small or insignificant. Every mile or minute achieved benefits you in your training.....and will put the Crazy 8's that much closer to team victory. |

Veteran 296 | Subject: RE: Team Crazy 8's Captain Michel.....will you please get a final ruling from the captain's enclave on the trainer miles/minutes for bike? Weather may force me to do some training indoors. My area has one tropical storm coming within the next 24 hours and another with strong potential is lurking just days away. LOTS of rain is in the forecast. |

Champion 4902 Ottawa, Ontario | Subject: RE: Team Crazy 8's Hey Team, Renee will be wanting reports on our progress by 5pm each Monday. Therefore, I would ask each team member to send me their totals by 4pm that date. Gina, what is specifically that you want to know? You can train either in miles or in minutes, whichever you prefer. Or is it the value of cycling on a trainer that you want to know about. Michel |

Or is it the value of cycling on a trainer that you want to know about. Michel There was talk on one thread about disallowing trainer use. I don't plan to use my trainer but weather might force the issue. I have a computer on-board so I can get an good reading. I am actually much more efficient outdoors in terms of speed and would prefer to be outside. Just don't want to lose valuable time with uncooperative weather. |

Expert 1238 Denver, Colorado | Subject: RE: Team Crazy 8's The substitutions thread is definitely important and people should look at it. I think it would be cheating if people put down their miles from a trainer or treadmill. If those things were even remotely accurate, I would be a pro runner based on what they tell me. I have an idea of how to reconcile the situation though. We can use the old Rate x Time = Distance equation. Use the amount of time spent on the trainer or whatever, but as the rate use your average speed from training outdoors. Then you would have an idea of what your outdoor mileage would be. Anyway, I voiced this opinion in the substitutions thread, but it will probably be lost in the sea of posts, so I'm pasting it below. "Well, here's what I think. The number of miles that a treadmill or stationary bike reads is complete garbage (the same goes for the speed, because they are related), so if people are training in miles they shouldn't be using numbers from their machines. However, if they are training by time then any time spent doing the activity, regardless of whether they are inside or outside, is valuable and should count. Maybe a simple conversion could turn these minutes into pseudo-miles. Take the average speed you perform at outdoors, and use that to convert minutes on a treadmill or trainer into the equivalent distance you would have gone if you went outdoors. Does that make sense to anyone else? " |

Champion 4902 Ottawa, Ontario | Subject: RE: Team Crazy 8's TriMom3, as far as I am concerned, and I am the Captain, if you do 250 miles on the trainer, it is just as good as 250 miles on the road. Someone may argue that the mileage on the trainer is easier but then if the setting is so low, you will spin and train effectively. That is the whole point of this exercise, to give members of this forum a little more incentive to do their training. |

I usually don't post trainer miles in my log but since this is a short-term event, I wanted to know the guidelines since circumstances, i.e. weather, may force alternate training plans. So far, I have avoided having to use the trainer and have two rides planned for this weekend, between storms . TS Cindy has passed, all eyes are now on Dennis. Happy and safe training, Crazy 8's !!! |
