Current team roster is: Artemis Thought we could start things off here by giving an introduction (name, goal for the month, goals for the year, how you got started running, etc.) and also coming up with a team name. Science Nerd 28760 Redwood City, California | Subject: RE: February Challenge Run Team 2 I'll start off with the introduction. My real name is Jen. I'm working on a PhD in genetics and trying to train. Some days that gets to be a challenge. My goal for this month is to run 60 miles. I have a half-marathon in March that I am currently training for. I'm also going to try my first HIM and full marathon this year, so that's a bit nerve-wracking. I started running in 2005 when I decided I wanted to do a tri, but realized that required running. I was never a runner before that. I started with the BT couch-to-5k program and made it through the first tri, then had the idea to sign up for a half-marathon. Somewhere along the way, I learned to actually like running. I got sidelined last year with a tibial stress fracture, but that's healed now and I am just about back to where I was before the injury. |

Pro 4343 Olney, MD | Subject: RE: February Challenge Run Team 2 Hi everyone, I'm Nicole (I have a PhD in cell genetics and molecular biology). I started biking a few years ago on a trainer stand but only made it back out onto the road in 2006 when I decided that I wanted to do a local charity ride and the Diabetes Tour de Cure ride. I became completely hooked on riding. That Fall, a biking buddy told me about her experience at the Iron Girl triathlon and it got me thinking "if she could do it so could I". I started running in October 2006 and did my first sprint triathlon in July 2007. In June 2007 I sprained my ankle while running a 5k race, but still posted my PB. During the Fall I dealt with PT for knee caps that were not tracking straight. I was off from runing for 2 full months but started back up in late October. Since then I've been steadily increasing my distance back up to 5K and bring my times down. In January I ran 25 miles, so my goal for this February challenge is 30 miles. I had planned to run this morning, but an ice and rain storm made me postpone. I'll get out on Sunday, Tuesday and Thursday and be right back on track. What about a team name? Perhaps "Runs with Scissors"? Edited by MDHillSlug 2008-02-01 9:29 AM |

TinkerBeth 23096 Liverpool, New York | Subject: RE: February Challenge Run Team 2 Hi Team 2 - (yes, that will need to change he he) I'm Beth I currently reside in Omaha Nebraska, although beginning Sunday I will reside in PA Mon - Friday and in Omaha on the weekends. I am headed into my 3rd tri season. I've completed 3 sprints and 2 oly's (although on oly i did as a team) I come from a competitve swimming background. Running is my weakest link - January was my first month of running since last June - I've been dealing with some foot injuries that I think are finally in the past! My goal is set pretty low this month, because I will be adjusting to a lot of changes - hopefully I will be increasing the goal as life settles into a routine. I'm not sure how much posting I'll be able to do as I am starting a new job. I've requested a laptop - so I'm hopeful that I will be able to post in the evenings. If I'm not around much, it will mean that I don't have access easily. happy to be a part of the team Thanks for being the captain Jen! Edited by lastcall2003 2008-02-01 9:32 AM |

Pro 4507 Simpsonville, SC | Subject: RE: February Challenge Run Team 2 Runs with Scissors works for me! I'm Pam. Believe it or not, I was on my high school track team. I loved the 400m hurdles. Not very fast though and I also got the joy of competing in the shot put and discus. Almost took out our guys' relay team in practice once when I messed up the timing of my spin! Didn't run again until 2003 in an effort to lose baby weight. Triathlon experience: This is my 4th year of tris. Last year I did 6 sprints, 2 olys, 1 HIM, and the bike leg of an oly relay. Running is my weakest discipline. I pulled a hip flexor last September training for my HIM. Did the race anyway which got me three months of no running to heal the damage. Goal for the challenge: I put down 40 miles of running for February. I do have a coach and am at the mercy of her training plans. I figure I should get 40 in since I did 30 last month and that was my first step back into running since my injury. I have a 10K race March 1st that I would love to PR (a girl can dream). Goals for 2008 - Get my weight under 140 pounds. This would be my lowest weight since 1986! Compete in two HIMs, stay healthy, improve my run! Looking forward to chatting with all of you this month! Extreme Veteran 534 Brisbane | Subject: RE: February Challenge Run Team 2 Hi! I'm Felix. I'm doing my first stand-alone marathon on May 4. I seriously struggle with my running. In January I began using one of the F.I.R.S.T. marathon-training plans. This plan requires only 3 days of running (1. speed/2. tempo/3. LSD). However, each day is highly specific and demanding. I've been having lots of trouble meeting my target pace on the speed/track workouts. I seem to just barely make it on the tempo runs and have, fortunately, felt comfortable in the LSD runs. All three runs are much faster than my usual triathlon-training paces. So running has become a real challenge. In fact, tomorrow I'm doing a 5k TT and will most likely adjust my training paces based on that result. My goal for this month is 16hrs. I'm also doing a 30k offroad "training" race on the 16th of this month. After completing the marathon in May, I'll do a HIM in June since I'll still be swimming and biking on my non-running days. I look forward to putting in a good run split in the HIM. This year, I'll become more of a runner and this challenge is a great way to start. |

Pro 4343 Olney, MD | Subject: RE: February Challenge Run Team 2 Forgot to mention that a ran one season of cross country way back in junior high. I wasn't very good (never pushed myself hard enough). I then tried indoor track and hated it: too hot, too hard on the legs! I did a little running on my own in HS, but was pretty much it until October 2006. |

Regular 98 Spokane, Washington | Subject: RE: February Challenge Run Team 2 Greetings All! My name is Joann and I am in snowpacked Spokane. This is my first challenge. My goal for the month is 25 miles of walk/run. I'm a 46 year-old stay-at-home mom, and this year my body has been telling me "you better get me into shape or I'm gonna make it really hard for you later on." I used to run 20 years ago, and even did a half marathon - it seemed easy at the time. But my body and I have forgotten those days and now we're starting from scratch. I've worked up to a one mile run now, and hope to increase the run and walk distances this month. I have bad knees, so have been working slowly to increase distance without injury. So far, so good. I did my first and only tri (a women's only sprint) in 2006 and loved it. I am training for the same event in 2008. I look forward to getting to know you all. Runs with Scissors works for me. Joann |

Master 2339 somewhere over the rainbow | Subject: RE: February Challenge Run Team 2 hey team! IF you change the name to runs with scissors, i'm TOTALLY getting my old avitar back. (i miss that little guy!!) anyway, my name's lyssa, i live in western washington. i'm a stay at home-homeschooling mom with three littles. a 7yo a 3yo and a 1yo. i started running in june of last year to try to lose some baby weight and after three months of almost killing myself, realized i actually LIKE to run. i'm 40 pounds below first baby weight, so i'm doing all right there, although, i'd still LOVE to lose the last 10 pounds. i did my first sprint in september, and my time was laughable, but knowing NOW what i didn't know then, i think my next one will be much better. my next one is actually april 16th. and i just signed up for a half mary in may. i did the october challenge, and the november challenge, and i was running long, fast and hard. i was doing REALLY great. THEN i took december off, and january was a huge struggle for me. i'm STARTING to get back where i almost was in november, but i feel like i still have a ways to go. the roads are icy here, so it's hard to find a DAY when i can safely run. ALSO i'm just coming off a minor injury (long story ) yesterday my husband drove me up to where the roads were plowed, and was kind of being pace car for me, which at first i found really distracting, but later found really inspiring! i REALLY didn't want to slow down, OR walk when he was watching me, so i'm actually off to do that again right now, and i'll log it when i get back |

Champion 7546 Santa Cruz, California | Subject: RE: February Challenge Run Team 2 Hi Everyone... My name is Julie. I live in the San Francisco Bay Area. I am a newbie - kinda...did my first challenge last month....so not that new, huh? I joined BT after a relative of mine passed away tragically in an ironman competition in November of last year...I am a retired mountain bike racer (raced for five years very VERY competitively) and have ran non competitively many years ago in 10K's....but have never competed in a tri. I also played ultimate frisbee which is nothing but non stop running...on a coed team that would travel all over the world and play...but again retired from playing frisbee over 4 or so years ago...SO BASICALLY I HAVE BEEN NOTHING SHORT OF A SLUG!...hehe I decided to get off of the couch..and try and whip this old body back into shape... I am signed up to compete in an Oly in San Diego with my daughter in May...very excited - BUT TERRIFIED! ;O) This month I have signed up to do 65 miles which I know I can do...I just have to stay focused... I just bought a new carbon fiber bike WOO HOO...so you guys are going to have to keep me focused on my running... My goals are to do the Florida ironman that Dorothy passed in...in her honor...with my brother. To lose 40 lbs by December 2008...I have already lost between 15-20 lbs YAY To get my short distant run times down by May...to 10 minute miles Raise money for the Susan Koman walk in July....any givers...HEHE (I am a 23 year survivor)...LIFE IS GOOD! I like do my best to inspire, encourage or to motivate....and hope others will do the same to me....IT HELPS me a lot! possible team names: totally fine with Running with Scissors or will throw in the following names to throw about............Butts Sweats and Tears - - - Will run for Little Debbies - - - Smell Ya Later I look forward to getting to know everyone...thanks Jen for being the captain. OK EVERYBODY...It is a BEAUTIFUL day in my neighborhood....so I guess it is TIME TO RUN....hope to get in 5+ miles today... GO TEAM GO!!!

Hi, I'm Scott and I have been accused of being a runner. My target for the month is 9.5 hours. I am slowly ramping up training and distance. For the year, my big targets are a Sept HIM and Oct Marathon. Also, I want to hit most of my schedule long runs instead of cutting them back or breaking them into 2 medium runs. (actually the big target is supporting my wife for the arrival of child #4 - hoping to fit the training for the other stuff around that) I quit track in middle school, ran Cross Country my senior year of high school, event ran off and on for a while and then when I really decided to do an IM, I had to start running. That was 2003/2004 when I started building up to it. As for team name, I don't think I want to promote Runs with Scissors to my 3 kids, especially my oldest as she is starting to read rather well and occasionally reads over my shoulder as I post. How about "Will Run for Food" or more accurately for me "Run to Eat" since I use it to justify my consumption at times. Take care and lets have a great month building toward our goals. |
