Whenever I read about something tragic like this, it just enrages me to see billboards where attorneys advertise that they can get you off a DUI charge (shaking head). Its not anti-attorney - they're simply trying to make a living like everyone else - its the idea that even 1 - even 1 - offense of being caught under the influence with 2 1/2 or more tons of car and what that could do to other human lives and somehow being allowed to get away with it - it makes me sick.

The penalties for drunk driving - regardless of country - aren't nearly serious enough. 



This is why I always have a problem with people doing "beer calculus." You know, if I drink x drinks, in y hours, and my body metabolizes at 1.2 drinks per hour, then I am OK to drive.

Me too. Why on Earth would we rely on the judgement of an individual under the influence of a judgement impairing drug? Where is the tiny shred of common sense in that?

Sadly, I know so many people who think nothing of drinking a 6 pack and jumping behind the wheel, it drives me crazy. Especially since some of them are law enforcement.
