Subject: Longhorn Spectator Questions

We're trying to finalize the logistics for everyone who is coming to the race. Since this is my first Longhorn and HIM, I'm not sure what to expect. I do know from what I've heard that after attending one of Keith's races we will all be spoiled!

What time should my family plan getting on the bus to make the swim start? They don't want to be in the way of the athletes who are trying to get over there.

Can or should they even bring lawn chairs?

Can they bring in a small cooler?

Is it easy to come and go during the race on the buses? Or should they plan on being there the entire day?

Is there anywhere to shower off or change after the race? Is there somewhere I can stash a bag of clean clothes or do they need to carry them?

I would appreciate any other helpful hints. Everyone except for my teenage son that is coming is an adult.

Hopefully Keith will chime in with answers to the bus questions since he would have the most up-to-date information (he might not since he's busy).  Here is what I suggest:

What time should my family plan getting on the bus to make the swim start? They don't want to be in the way of the athletes who are trying to get over there.  I doubt there will be an issue with buses.  If it get's close to the start, then there usually is an athlete's only bus to get them there faster.

Can or should they even bring lawn chairs? I would suggest it, if they can carry from the parking lot to the bus and then from the bus drop-off to the BT tent

Can they bring in a small cooler? Again, I would suggest it for the same reason above.

Is it easy to come and go during the race on the buses? Or should they plan on being there the entire day?  I would plan on being there the whole day but don't know about the bus schedule.  You can walk from the park back to the Expo Center (about a mile).

Is there anywhere to shower off or change after the race? I haven't ever seen a shower at Emma Long Lake but you can change in a few places depending on your level of comfort in changing in public.

Is there somewhere I can stash a bag of clean clothes or do they need to carry them? The BT tent!

I would appreciate any other helpful hints. Everyone except for my teenage son that is coming is an adult.   There should be a crowd at the BT tent and we hope to be right on the run course (or close).

Thanks! Changing in public will probably be the least of my worries after the race! LOL!

Sorry, it's actually Decker Lake at Walter E. Long Park.  I wrote the response before coffee.  That's my excuse.

I just plan on jumping into the lake to get most of the salt and grime off.  Changing in the car and heading home to Dallas...of course after much bbq and hanging with the best peeps in the world at the tailgate

Looks like most of the questions have been answered, but a couple of additional things:

Buses will run continuously from 5:00 AM to 5:00 PM; spectators can come and go as they please.  Race start is at 7:30, so going around 7:00 should be late enough to avoid most athletes but still catch the start.

You can go to www.endorfunsports.com - under LongHorn / race info, you'll see the Athlete's Guide and a schedule of events.  The guide has a Spectator's Info page in it.

Here's my question/concern about the above information:  How are the buses going to run btw the parking lot & the start after the race begins??  The bus route is on Decker Lake Rd, which is also the bike course & the run course.  I am not looking forward to running next to bus exhaust on the run.  How is this going to work?

I don't know of the precise route of the buses at various times, but there's a longer loop available on Blue Bluff / 969 / Decker Lane (vs. Decker Lake).  I'm sure Keith has already planned for either elimination or minimizing buses on any parts of the run or bike roads while they're in active use by athletes.

If the bike route beginning/end is the same as last year, they already have a bus route that avoids the bike route entirely.

Should the family plan on bringing food and drink to spectate or will there be food and drink available to buy for spectators?

There will be food & drink there, but a cooler might not be a bad idea if you want to save a little cash.

Thanks.  I just remember how Lubbock was a few years ago.  Not much in the way of food so we brought our own.
