I will be doing my first 5K this Saturday the 25th.  I am actually pretty nervous...I started at 225 #'s and doing ZERO exercise in May...I am at 165#'s and am doing 5K in 35 minutes on a treadmill, not a great time, but in May I literally couldn't jog for more than 2 minutes without stopping!

I have been doing longer run/walks once a week training for a 1/2 marathon in November.  This 5K came up in my hometown, so I decided to give it a shot.  My first attempt at anything like this...I hope it goes well...I will give an update when it's over...wish me luck!

PS This site has been VERY helpful every step of the way!

Congrats on the 60 pounds off!!!  That's awesome to begin with!

And you will kick butt in your run.  It's only 3.1 miles, you can push through that easily after all your hard work!

And welcome to BT!

Good for you!!  Remember, we can all make lifestyle changes that will improve our lives.  I quit smoking 6 years ago.  Although I was never overweight, I led a very sedentary, unhealthy lifestyle.  Since then I have run 3 marathons and will be doing IMFL a week from this Saturday.  Congratulations and enjoy your race!!

Definately enjoy it.  I started in February with a 5k and I ran about a quarter mile of it before having to stop and walk.  Since then I have completed 3 sprint tri's, lost 50 pounds and my long run last saturday was 11 miles, so just keep at it and you will be able to accomplish whatever you want.  Good luck and have fun.

Awesome!

From zero exercise and 60# heavier 6 months ago, to 5k training runs in 35 minutes is a great accomplishment.

Have a great time at your race.  Use it as an opportunity to push for your best "right now" performance. You may find that you can do even better than you think.  In any case, it will definitely give you a baseline for comparing your progress as you continue to improve.

Enjoy!

Outstanding.  You are no doubt inspiring others.  If people knew what they were really capable of...

Have a blast...you did this!

Just go and have fun and celebrate your new found fitness.

Cool thing about running races if you get over tired you can either slow down or walk a few steps.

You have accomplished so much getting to the starting line...

Congrats. I had about the same schedule last year. You'll be surprised at how fast you improve over the coming year.
