Subject: Knowledge Is The Key To Success

I put together links for some of the really good triathlon training books that I have read. Please post any you have read that I have not listed:

The Triathlete's Guide to Run Training (Ultrafit Multisport Training Series)

The Triathlete's Training Bible: A Complete Training Guide for the Competitive Multisport Athlete

The Perfect Distance: Training for Long-Course Triathlon (Ultrafit Multisport Training Series)

Be Iron-Fit: Time-Efficient Training Secrets for Ultimate Fitness

Training Plans for Multisport Athletes: Your Essential Guide to Triathlon, Duathlon, XTERRA, Ironman, and Endurance Racing

Becoming an Ironman: First Encounters with the Ultimate Endurance Event

Triathlete Magazine's Complete Triathlon Book: The Training, Diet, Health, Equipment, and Safety Tips You Need to Do Your Best

The best way to improve is to get different points of view and take a little from each one and find what works for you. I am not an expert so I look to the experts for advice. I will be using a coach for my HIM next May, but in the mean time, I want to gain as much knowledge as possible from different sources. No one plan or book works for everyone. I have read several of these books and that is how I have made improvements. Good luck and tri hard.

IMO, the two best books for a triathlete who is interested in understanding training:

Scientific Training for Triathletes

Triathletes Guide to Training With Power

Plus, a great free resource on training with power for anyone who wants a primer to how to use a powermeter:

Road Cyclist's Guide to Training With Power

And a great running resource:

Daniels' Running Formula

What Shane suggested those are among my favorites; I would also add the Lore of Running...

But I don't have a bookshelf that is solid enough for that one

Chi Running by Danny Dreyer has really helped me move up from a 9:30 miler to an 8:30 miler.

This was a good book for me. I came from a weightlifting background and it was helpful in learning how to properly strength train for triathlons. Just my .02.

The subject of this post irks me.  Knowledge is NOT the key to success.  The correct application of knowledge is the key to success.  :-)

OK, hijack over.  Back to your regularly scheduled thread.

Good stuff BTW!

I agree... I have a bookshelf FULL of triathlon (including 4 of the titles mentioned previously), running, fitness and nutrition books and I'm still overweight, out of shape and slow.
You have to APPLY the knowledge and TRAIN for success.

Yeah I guess I should have clarified this and called it, "The proper execution of knowledge is the key to success". The point was, the more we knowledge we have the better chances we have to succeed. Maybe I should have thrown in some motivational books as well as I have plenty of those laying around too.
