subaru vs. multi sport canada series

It is a little more hardcore but not so much that a novice would not try it. Its like Coke and Pepsi - it seems that everyone is passionate about their favorite, though in reality differances between them are small. My advice is you try at least one Subaru Trisport race and pick a favorite for your self. Milton is a great race and close to T.O.

I don't know about "more hardcore" but I found the Subura Trisport series a little better organized.  Last year I did 2 duathlons...one in each series.  For the multisport canada series I did the Welland duathlon (this was my 2nd event I had ever done), and had a hard time finding the start line, none of the volunteers knew where it was, I never heard them announce it over the P.A..  I eventually found it with only a minute before the start.  The one I did with the Subaru series was my very first multisport race, and I had no problems finding anything, and volunteers actually knew answers to my questions.

With that said, I'll be doing races in both series' this year; doing the Victoria's Duathlon, and Milton tri, and in the Multisport Canada series the Welland tri, and Gravenhurst olympic. 

The first two events and my best were all Multisport. They're a little less experienced, smaller, and at some times maybe a little less organized. But you'll find horror stories from either.

Personally I like Multisport because of the smaller vibe I've gotten from their events. I've seen the race director deal with some pretty crappy things, and both times you can really see that he genuinely cares about the events and the people involved. Maybe it's lame and subjective, but that's my reason.

But that doesn't change that I'll sign up for whatever race fits my schedule and I know I'm going to have a great time anyway. You really can't go wrong, and like the previous poster said, the differences are minimal.

I did four Subaru events and one Multisport event last year and didn't notice much of a differance. The Subaru series has been around longer and tends to draw more people and that brings stronger competition.

In 2009, I did all Multisport events (6 total I think)
In 2010, I did all Subaru events (6 total I think)

Multisport events are not as competitive (it is a LOT easier to podium in your AG in a Multisport event).So, if you are looking to be the best in southern ontario for your AG, you want to compete in Subrau events so you get a proper measure of the "best" competition.

However, if you are simply racing against yourself, looking to set a PB, or simply get out and have a good time, either series will do just fine. 
For me, I will be doing a little more Multisport events this summer because Subaru has far too many strange distance triathlons (e.g., 750m-30k-7.5k races). I am looking for the globally recognized distances (OLY, SPRINT, HIM).
Multisport sticks to those distances for nearly ALL races in the summer. The only chance of doing an OLY distance race in Subaru series is Guelph Lake I. That's it.
Multisport has Gravenhurst, Bracebridge, Cobourg, Wasaga Beach, and Lakeside as the proper OLY distance/ Sprint Distance categories.

Similar prices for registration in each series.

Interesting how some of the subaru events do feel like stepping stones into the more classic distances...
& that's what I figured: that the more competitive or established racers would gravitate towards some of the Subaru events...

at this point, being on the podium isn't an option for me-- I'm still pretty new! (& finding my legs, so to speak)

For me, it is just a matter of timing...

My A race will be Muskoka 70.3. I want to do an Oly in August to test the pace, and only MSC allows me to do that. Then , I want to do another Oly earlier in July, and once again, only MSC.
I'm not available end of june, so the only subaru race that interested me, I won't be able to do it...

So, only a matter of timing/scheduling for me

I'm assuming the July Olym your referring to is Gravenhurst.  I'll be doing that race also, and Muskoka is also my A race in 2011.

Well, you take Ottawa, without training and being around 210lbs. Then, you start loosing weight, then train a little, then loose more weight, then train a little bit more and you do Goodlife at about 170lbs.
It's amazing how you can move faster without these 40lbs+ of fat in your backpack...
