I guess maybe I was a nerd, but I always looked forward to the first day of school.  Not school so much, as the return to routine and friends and such.

But the first day back to work after a vacation SUCKS!

It wouldn't be so bad if I didn't have to be awake so early.  I like being back in school (I'm a grad student), but it's so hard to be awake for classes and meetings in the morning.  Where would I be without coffee?

After about the fourth year of grad school everything just starts to mush together and you don't really notice the starting / ending of the school year.

I was excited about it. I had a crazy summer and was looking forward to settling into a firm routine.

Lets just say that my classes have really let me down this semester.

It's so

Blah. (It could also be that the tail end of summer in Phoenix is always a trial for me..)

After about the fourth year of grad school everything just starts to mush together and you don't really notice the starting / ending of the school year.

And then you become faculty and not only can you not distinguish between the beginning and end of the school year, but you don't make any distinctions between the beginning of the work day and the end, and have a hard time telling when one class or meeting ends and the next begins. Eventually, you can't tell students apart, stop finishing sentences, and begin talking to yourself in the middle of the hallway.

What was I saying?

I can't wait to go back!!! I miss it so much. I miss being around people my age (the arthritis class at the Y is a hoot, don't get me wrong). I miss my sorority sisters. I miss staying up late. I miss the 1:30 AM doughnut run (which, if you haven't gone on one and you go to Otterbein/are from Westerville...you need to check your priorities). I miss cafeteria food for god's sake. I miss nice flat training roads.....*sigh* Good thing I'm going back on Sunday!!!!!!!!!! woo!! Junior year!

I just finished my first year of grad school and I already feel that way.  Guess there isn't much that's going to change, huh?

I loved every minute of school. Getting to know new pwople and teachers. Getting back together with all the friends. Of course the georgeous weather in the fall and Spring in Southern Illinois. FAC (Friday Afternoon Club) which if you don't have one of these you need to start one. The Beer always tated better at school for some reason. Ummmm Beer. Now I want to go back to school. Well Maybe I'll hitch a ride back for Homecoming.

Unless you are taking night classes, that is. I start my Masters program next Monday and I'm really stressing over the impact this is going to have on my training!

School starting is affecting our family for the first time this year in a big way. We put our 4 year old on the school bus headed to kindergarten for the first time this morning, my wife started a Masters program last night and our 3 year old starts pre-school next week and I'll be dropping her off so swims before work are out. My training schedule is going to be interesting. Still, it's very cool. New beginnings, new opportunities.
