I'd think that for a barefoot dismount, the more classic stepthrough method would be safer for the feet. I just wear my shoes, and still have among the fastest transitions. So, maybe "it's not about the shoes".
ps. Approaching a couple riders several hundred yards into a race, guy on left, still struggling to get in his shoes, kicks his shoe out of the pedal and starts a 180 right in front of/into me. I body checked him back into forward motion, and neither of us went down, but I'm not a real fan of people who leave shoes attached to the bike, but are not really comfortable with the process of getting in and out.
