Okay, let's get this party started...

Who has started training for IMC? Who is doing 2011 as their very first Ironman distance?

Howdy. This will be my first IMC and my 6th Iron Distance race. I bought the Computrainer Virtual ride for the IronMan Canada course so hopefully I'll load that up soon and "check out the course". Still in the off season mode for the most part right now.

First Ironman for me!!!  Have hired a coach to get through this successfully and will officially start training in January.  Right now I'm just working the weaknesses and trying to maintain a good base.  Looking forward to all the good advise from all the veterans out there!

Okay, this is my fourth attempted Ironman and, I hope, will be my third finish. I had a little trouble with hypothermia at CDA '09.

I live in Canada, so it's funny that of the 2 Ironman distance races I've completed, neither of which was Ironman Canada. I'm really looking forward to it next year!

I pretty much never stop training, but I've begun a little slower than I normally do. I'm just trying to get a couple 2000 metre swims per week, at least five 5km runs plus 1 15-20K run per week, and two to three 1 to 1.5 hour bike rides (not including strength training). If I can keep this up constant for December and January, I will be a happy person.

This is the 6th time I've registered for IMC, and hopefully I'll be making it to the start line for the 3rd time. Historically my issue is getting to an IM start line in one piece. Once I'm there I'm good to go. I've also done Florida, Lake Placid and Arizona.

I'm still in winter maintenance mode. Doing something every day, but nothing too long.

Well I will be a newbie.

I have been doing some tri races over the past couple of years and while I will be a participant this is something I pomised myself 2 years ago in an intensive care cardiac ward. The old biological clock is clicking and It was this year or never.

I am into a winter base building program and running 3 times a week (today is boxing day and with the wind chill was        -31for our 8 mile run with our group from the Running room in Winnipeg) swimming 3 times a week and heavy into spin classes for a few hours every week so let the games begin.

My biggest challange will to to loose another 20lbs before summer. This old draft horse still has a few miles in its legs.

Look forward to hearing from you all throught out your training

This will be my first Ironman ever.
I just started on the EnduranceNation 36 week IM training programme.
Now everytime I watch a youtube clip of IMC races from the past my stomach gets queasy with nerves. But I pumped to try this.

Hi Everyone,

This will be my first Ironman distance race.  I've done a few halfs and other distance races, so I have some experience, but I know signing up for IMC will be a quantum leap in training and all around commitment.

I didn't race last year but I ran about 2 or 3 times a week and rode to work everyday so I didn't think I was completely out of shape until I started training this week.

Anyway, I hope everyones training goes well.  I'm looking forward to tapping into some of the Ironman experience that can be found in this forum

I wanted to share a web site that has a pretty good info on IMC, run vs. bike splits, etc.

http://www.runtri.com/2009/08/ironman-canada-2009-what-to-expect.html

The chart below is pretty interesting. It maps an individuals run vs. bike split. Bottom right quadrant are the people walking after going to hard on the bike. I must remember this graph and avoid being in that quadrant.

Now that we're a couple of weeks into the year, how's everyone's training going?

Mine is going well. Volume is still low, but I've been doing some speed work in the pool and feeling good about where I'm at right now. Most of my bike time has been on the computrainer and I'm beginning a six week block of higher intensity work to jump-start my FTP. Running is light as I'm building back up after a long break.

221 days and counting.

I've had a bit of a set back. Just before Calgary 70.3 last year I injured my knee. I finally saw the orthopaedic surg last week and he is scheduling a surgery and casually mentioned I may never run again......gulp. Well, won't it be fun to prove him wrong.

Swim......Bike.........walk?

You orthopaedic surgeon needs to "bone up" (sorry, it had to be said) on triathlon (and other long distance event) history to see how many people have proven their doctors wrong about what human determination and smart rehab can accomplish.

This will be my third Ironman race and hopefully my second finish. I did IMC in 2007 and had one of the best day's of my life. It was a long day (almost 16 hours long) and I finished in the dark, but my family was there and it was such an amazing day. Ironman Coeur d'Alene in 2009 did not go so well due to health issues on the bike (docs still don't know what happened). It took me about 8 months to feel healthy again. So what do I do? Well, sign up for Ironman Canada, of course! I figure that I want to do one more before I take some time off from the addiction of Ironman.

Right now I'm trying to work out consistently 6 days a week... nothing hard or major. It's mostly about setting up a balance in my life. I have a mental illness, which means that I have to be really careful about taking care of myself while setting myself up to do something as huge as this. For the first time in my life, I feel like I'm actually obtaining the balance that I need to complete this race to my satisfaction.

My wife, my father-in-law and I are all doing it this year.  My first.  My wife's second (IMLP) and my FIL's 3rd (IMFL, IMLP.

The training is going great.  I've been mostly working on cycling on the CT and swim speed work.  I've just been maintaining my run fitness gained during my 1/2 marathon training last Nov.

I anticipate this to be a really fun race.  After this I think I want to focus on going fast in sprint and olympic distance races though.

I'm not signed up yet. I hopefully will (through the community fund--expensive, but what the heck) by next week. I have done two halves, One half relay, three olympics and a few sprints. This would be my first (and last) full. My wife is not thrilled with the idea so if I do it, it will be a one-time shot. I have tried hard to balance family and triathlon since I started two years ago. I will keep doing 70.3s, though. I'm signed up for Vineman 70.3 and will probably do Troika in Spokane.

I'm 42, and I think if I'm going to do one, I should do it now. I'm training about 8 hours a week right now--biking 60 miles, running 25-30 miles, swimming 4000+ meters.

Any advice would be great, and I hope to join you all by getting in soon.
