I haven't posted much since I came on here a few months ago so I thought I might start over.

I finished physical therapy on both knees last week and go to the doctor later today for a follow-up to hopefully get cleared to resume regular training. If so, I might even start posting my workouts on the log. If not, I may slip back into the darkness and remain quiet.

For now, at least I updated my albums and included the "future triathletes" in my family.

Definitely stay away from the darkness.  MOVE TOWARDS THE LIGHT!!  It's safer in groups.  Stay in touch no matter what happens.

The doc says we can almost rule out surgery at this point - at least for now. He said to continue rehabbing and we will check them again in two months.

Here's my problem: After six weeks on physical therapy only - no regular workouts - I'm a bit apprehensive about getting back into my workout routine.

I'm sitting here right now wondering if I should go outside for a run or not. (Of course it's 34 degrees and snowing heavily at the moment - perhaps the treadmill would be better) But I don't want to get out there and be in pain again or bring about more damage.

Welcome back! I'm new here so can you fill me in on your knees? I too have just finished physical therapy for both knees, mine for tendinitis, particularly with the IT band. I have my own follow-up doctor appointment tonight. I have been doing only small amounts of running (2 miles) a couple times a week as that is all I can handle at the moment. I've decided that I'm going to concentrate more on swimming and biking this year so the knees can really heal.

Kelly,

I am up to about 20 min running with the IT band issue.  Just started PT a couple of weeks ago.  Swimming is getting a lot of attention right now.  Does cycling bother your knee?  I haven't tried it since I first felt pain from running.

I count at least 3 Boise residents on this sight. Maybe you guys can get together and train. At least go get Lavoie out of his bed and back into training mode.

Hi Rio,

No, cycling doesn't bother my knee so far, but I've only been doing indoor stationary biking. I hope to get outside on the real bike in the next few weeks, and I hope it will continue to feel good. I've been swimming alot myself trying to work on good cardio endurance. In theory, I'll be able to use that conditioning to suffer throught the run in a race, even with limited running training.

Good luck with your PT! Mine definitely helped.

Thanks Kelly,

I did bike at the Y last night.  It was only 15 min's but more importantly no pain.  Hopefully I can continue the bike and feel like a multi-sport athlete rather than a swimmer......which I am not.  Good luck with the outside rides.

Welcome again.... I know the feeling of the whole PT world.... I'm living it. I hope you got cleared! Lot's of luck with your re-entry and hope you got the green light to go!
