It was my understanding they were no longer making them after Christmas. Doesn't mean they aren't in the stores but hopefully yo are lucky enough that they are gone.

From Wikipedia
"On December 3, 2008, U.S. District Judge Stephen Larson banned MGA from selling Bratz. He allowed the company to continue selling the dolls until the winter holiday season ended.[16] The ruling will be in effect on February 11, 2009 at the earliest; Mattel and MGA will meet in court on that date.[17] As per the court order, after the end of the holiday season, MGA must remove, at its own cost, all the Bratz dolls from store shelves, including the reimbursement of the cost of the dolls and all shipping costs to its vendors and distributors.[18] The court gave exceptions for some toys if they are packaged separately from infringing toys.[19] MGA has since stated that they are planning to file an appeal."

I feel your pain. My daughter will be 7 on 3/15 and she's asked for BRATZ on more than one occasion. We won't buy her anything BRATZ, ever. Hannah Montana has been the replacement.

Those things are freakin' expensive, though. Good idea, if Spokes wants to pony up the cash

Do not fall victim to the American Girl thing.  Its bad enough that the dolls are like $90 each but thats just the beginning.  Then its clothes, for the doll and your child, accessories and the inevitable trip to the American Girl Store for a $50 lunch.  My daughter probably has more $$ invested in American Girl stuff than I do in tri equipment.

My ten year old daughter's 2 favorite things are her pink Nintendo DS and her pink Ipod.  Both are expensive but will end up way cheaper than American Girl.

Thanks for the headsup on the court decision and the American Girl doll.

Generally, I try to keep the cost of a birthday present < $30. She already has a DS but between her and her brother they have 35+ games for it. They really don't need additional excuses to sit on their butts LOL

Bratz are the root of all evil...followed closely by American Girl.

You can buy knock-off American Girl dolls at Target for $30...my daughter (7) has a few of those to feed her AG craving and is not snobby enough to know the difference.

If you want them off their butts...what about Dance Dance Revolution? We got a standalone (doesn't require Xbox/PS/etc.) version for around $30 for Xmas and both girls (4 & 7) love it (as do hubby and I).

IMHO, I don't think Bratz dolls are that trashy, they are just not pretty. I actually like all the accessories that came with the doll. I see Bratz (and Barbie) as giant money pit because one can never have just 1 doll, you need her friends, and different outfits and the playset etc. But then again, all toys are giant money pits. And I really hate those extension lines like Bratz Boyz and Bratz Babyz. Urgh. They are like Oreo cakester and Orea cereal, both destined for your neighborhood Big Lots.

Anyway, giving your daughter, say $20, would be an interesting proposition. See how she would spend her money, whether she would spend all of it or save 1/2 of it.

When they were here for Christmas, her brother brought $70 of his allowance money (I give them $5 a week each) with him in his wallet; she left her money at home (she has not started carrying a purse - yet). I took them to Costco to buy them decent winter coats for the ski areas (they live in Savannah and don't have any stout winter clothing, really), and he wanted a new DS game, so did she... so she 'borrowed' $26 from him for a new one and he bought another at $26. I let them do this so they understand the value of saving and paying cash for something they want, but personally, I think it would be great if their mother would take them to the bank in Savannah and open savings accounts for their allowance money - rather than just using it to buy crap.

Reminds me of the time my nephew saved every penny he got for like 8 months because he wanted some crazy big nerf gun.  My mom (NaNa!) told him she would cover the sales tax, but my sister insisted he have ALL of the money - I mean, no one else gets out of sales tax!

So we all go to ToysRus... my nephew has his money in a glass jar (how CUTE!). He gets the nerf gun, carries it up to the counter (it is bigger than he is almost) and when it was rung up, it came to some really odd number like $62.87. The kid dumps all his money out on the counter and lets the cashier count it, he is watching very carefully. As she got down to the quarters, and dimes, and pennies, we got nervous. What if he didn't have enough? It was gonna be close! Would my sister let my mom front him the last little bit? Well it ended up that my nephew had the exact amount of money, down to the PENNY in his little glass jar. He was so proud!

Ummmm, borrowing money from siblings.

When I was a senior in high school I borrowed money from my sister to by a season pass to the local ski area. I don't think I actually payed her any money back, but I didn't get a Christmas or birthday present from her for years, just a card that said how much she was deducting from my loan. I think it was college graduation by the time I had "repaid" the loan. To sum up, I learned nothing good.

Great story lisa

"so she 'borrowed' $26 from him for a new one and he bought another at $26. "

Since the word "borrowed" was in quote, I take that she has yet to repay brother?
