Has anyone had any problems with skin irritation/rash after swimming in chlorinated pools. The more I swim the worse it gets! Any recommendations other then not swimming.

After years and years and years of swimming..

I still havent found a solution to this question.  In high school, my skin was ALWAYS dry, hair was ALWAYS ratty, and no matter which shampoos + body washes + moisturizers I used, nothing worked.

That said, the only reccomendation I have for you is to find a REALLY good moisturizing body wash + facial moisturizer that you use after EVERY swim in the shower.  And if you can, find a good de-chlorinating shampoo, since any chlorine left in your hair will just dribble down your back after the shower if you haven't removed it, therefore negating any effects of the body-wash/moisturizer!

Ditto on what he said.  I use Aveeno products which seem to help.  My last few times swimming I sneezed like crazy for 12-24 hours after.  Too much or not enough cholirine. Not sure which but it's a PITA.

Haven't had any skin problems, but I've now found that I like the smell of chlorine on me!!

I don't really have an skin irritations, but it makes me sneeze. I always sneeze and feel like I have a cold after I get out to the VAC.

The only solution I've found is to swim in a non-chlorinated pool.

Yep,I'm a sneezer too and my skin gets sooo itchy if I forget to take moisturiser with me (and even then I have to reapply twice). Cannot leave the pool without showering/washing hair else the rest of the day is a wipeout from sneezing. Latest idea I'm trying is sitting in the steam room for 10mins after a swim, my theory is maybe I'll sweat out some more chlorine   I'm pretty sure I'm sneezing a lot less as a result...as for skin, hey I might try that Aveeno suggestion, my current moisturiser just doesn't cut it.

My face tends to end up the most dried out and tight feeling after swimming indoors.  Has anyone tried baby diaper rash ointment or A&D ointment on their skin before or after the pool?  I'm wondering if these would work just as well as other skin barrier creams, but at a much cheaper price point.  Since I only really want to protect the delicate skin on my face, I think I'll give these a try and report back.

If anyone has this problem and lives in the downtown area the new(ish) YMCA pool on Burrard is a UV pool. I swam there from April to July last season and never had an issue.

I would suggest moisturizers, chlorine removal shampoos or simply swim in a pool filtered by UV or Ozone and see if you continue to have reactions.

I don't think the pool would appreciate those creams being used before - vaseline might be a better choice as it's clear and very benign.  Afterwards, knock yourself out!  I don't know if I'd want to smell like a (clean) baby's bum

Nothing to do with swimming but I slather on a gererous layer of Vasaline all over my body at home. That's it. It just makes me very slick and slippery.

I used to have major sinus issues after swimming. Tried a lot of things but now seem to have beaten it. I use a basic saline spray occasionally (don't use Dristan or similar products) plus as soon as I get out of the pool I rinse my nose with fresh water in the shower. It's not as gross as it sounds. I just stand under the shower, cup my hands around my nose and breath in fresh water one nostril at a time. You have to inhale the water till it's in the back of your throat then exhale. It simply flushes out the pool water. Feels a little uncomfortable the first few times as I think we are conditioned to not let water get that far up.

I agree.  I use my neti pot as soon as I get home fro the pool and that seems to make a big difference.  I'd use it at the pool but it was gross everyone out...
