Got tickets to a reading, or show, or whatever it is you would call what he does... satirist?  monologuist?

April in Long Beach.  I'm stoked!  The guy is freaking hilarious

I recently read 'Me talk pretty one day'. OMG, I don't think I've ever laughed so hard. And sitting alone on a plane, no less. It's a good thing I was on one of those tiny, really loud planes, or everyone would have been staring at me.

I'm jealous.

He's a writer that reads what he writes. IMO, one of the funniest people on earth.

I saw him when he read his work in the bay area. He is funnier in real life than he is in his books.

My favorite story is the "Santaland Diaries" from his book "Holidays on Ice."

have fun! i just realized a couple of weeks ago who his sister amy is.. she's the short perky blonde who played the Finch stalker on Just Shoot Me.. I think she did SNL for a while.. and she played one of the editors for Carrie Bradshaw's book on Sex and the City..

And she was Jerri Blank on "Strangers with Candy."

i almost added him to the 'comedian' poll - he is totally a comic genius! reading his books is funny, listening to him read them is even funnier, so i can only imagine how awesome it would be to see him read them! i love his stuff.

Bump - so we saw him Sunday night.  My wife and I were both sitting there before the show wondering "so what does the typical DS fan look like?"  All kinds of folks showed up, and he was hilarious.  The time passed so quickly, I think he only read 3-4 stories, but they were great, all new stuff.  Before we knew it, the nearly 2 hours was up.  When the lights came up I thought it was intermission, but it was over.

He also takes questions from the audience so gets to do some ad libbing.

I didn't know it but he signs books before and after the show, and he picks someone out of the line to introduce him.  Here he picked a 16 year old kid, it was pretty cool.

He's like the gay Garrison Kiellor

Garrison Keillor's not gay?

Oh...and DS has a CD. It's hillarious.

Glad you had a good time!   He is hilarious.  I heard him for the first time way back, on NPR, reading "Santaland Diaries."  Read "Naked" if you get the chance.

I missed this thread before.  Definitely jealous.  The closest I've come to seeing him is listening to "DS-live at carnegie hall".  You can get a pretty good Sedaris fix by religiously listening to This American Life on NPR though...which, if you're not listening to, I highly recommend.

Ditto.

I got  hooked on Sedaris several years ago while reading Naked.  It may have helped that at the time I was stoned out of my gourd, but I think I laughed uncontrollably for several hours, even after I finished the book.  I've continued to read his work (without the gourd stoning, though) and enjoy his appearances on TAL and would love to hear him read his work live.

Lucky you!
