Subject: pets choose us......
Well, after several months of being without a pet (we lost our dear Alex hound in September), we started thinking we were ready for another dog, but with our job flux, were holding off. Many years ago it was Alex who chose me, and it looks like a repeat....

The other night Derreck came in from outside with a cat, thinking I would know whose it is (we live in the city and outside cats are not the norm). I did not, so Derreck put her outside so she could go home. A couple hours later we are still up (it is really late now)and "meow" - the cat is back in our condo! At first Derreck thinks it is a Demon to get back into the house, and we check all the doors and viola - a transom window above the fire escape door is open. She must have skulked around the outside of the building, climbing the fire esapes until she found a way in. We rig up a litter box, put some water in a dish, and go to bed. We put up signs the next day to find an owner, and by the hour became more and more attached to her. We knew we would be really dissappointed when the real owner came.

WEll, a neighbor called and sure enough, he know where the cat came from. He took the cat in, supposedly temporarily, but the owner went AWOL. The neighbor already has 2 big dogs and a cat, and this cat was really unhappy there, so the neighbor had decided to take it to the Dumb friends league the next day. I guess she knew it was time to make an escape.....

So, we call her Harmony. She does alot of lounging.

Alex, who thoroughly believed in the food chain and establishing his place on it, is probably rolling over in his tin box that we have a CAT!....

Mary, Great story, and very true. I "found" my dog about 7 years ago in my backyard on a very cold night. I couldn't find anyone in the

neighborhood that owned her, so I took her in, gave her food and a bath. Long story short, she showed some signs of abuse, I couldn't

part with her, and now I couldn't imagine life without her. She definitely "chose" me.

She's a beauty!!  I have many "but honey, it's sooo cute and just needs a place to stay for a couple of days..." stories.   I'm sure my husband can attest to the countless critters who have adopted us in some form or another.  They have each held a special place in my heart and they all have a story to tell!  I'm sure Harmony feels very blessed to have selected such wonderful parents!!

Beautiful cat. I'm glad to read that another animal spirit has embraced you. Losing a pet is always dificult, but the privilege of making new memories with another one is always a cool thing. Congratulations!

Congratulations!!  That is a cool looking cat.  Seems very content already.  Seems like growing up we never paid for an animal, they just showed up.  Some healthier than others but all turned out to be the BEST companions.  I am sure she will enjoy her new home.

She is such a beauty and she is one lucky feline to have chosen a wonderful "owner" like yourself to train.  I found my cat, Darwin, at a local pet shop so my story of finding him is not quite as heart warming.  We had had a cat prior to Darwin but he, Caramel, apparently drank some windshield washer fluid, which is deadly to cats.  My wife, Agnes, was grief stricken at the loss but I was not unduly moved, not being a "cat person".  She insisted that we get another cat right away and I say the only thing that fit for the moment: "yes dear".  I took up the task of finding a "new" cat with all the enthusiasm one musters for going to the dentist.  However, when I first held that cute little orange fur ball in my hands and he gave me a loving lick, I was smitten!  Now I love that cat more than anyone or anything it seems ... sometimes I suspect that I care more for that hairy old cat than I do my wife.  Boy, did he train me well!   :-

After having purchased a couple of dogs and cats, we are now quite happy to be adopted by our animals.  Years ago a cat strolled into our yard.  The kids immediately named her "Wild Kitty" after a story my husband had told them.  "Wild Kitty" she was...until she passed away from a heart murmur.  She owned us for seven years and my son still has her ashes in a tin in his room.  Our Jack Russell, Cooper is also adopted.  He came to us with many problems and has since become a part of the family (my husband used to call him the "white rat dog"..now they have bonded.  He takes him for walks, kayaking, the dog swims like a fish, and rides in the car.  It is so true...we are chosen by our pets.

Auntie Mary, Alyssa is thrilled you have a kitty - she's looking forward to a visit now so she can help you feed and care for her... she doesn't think you know how since cats and dogs need diffrent care and she should teach you....

She's beautiful! And obviously made herself quite at home. I've had animals in my life all my life and they've all found me one way or another, I've never actively gone out and got a pet. Have fun!

What a great story...and a very lucky cat!  Both my dog and my cat have "found" me.  I was just going to keep them for a little bit until I found them a good home....turns out the good home was mine!   Congrats on the new family member.
