Member ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() So I have a wetsuit and it used to fit. That was 15 pounds ago. It's a Pro Motion sleeveless and it worked great until I took a year off and got a little chubbier. However, it never really fit super great and I'd like to find something more comfy. I rented a full wetsuit for my last race and ended up with a mens medium Blue Seventy which was ok, but not great. I prefer a sleeveless suit in general. I'm about 5'10" and 185 lbs right now but my weight fluctuates between 170-185 in any given year. I'm not looking for lots of boob room but I have really, REALLY big legs and a big butt. I tried on the Blue Sevently XL Athena and it was a joke! The people at the tri shop almost didn't believe me when I told them it didn't fit. Really, they should take out the word Athena in my opinion. So what kind of wetsuit do you have? Do a lot of you wear a mens suit? I want to go out and try on a few more. Thank you! |

Master ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() I wear an orca wetsuit, and love it, but it has a pretty straight fit. It feels snug enough in the shoulders but never roomy at the waist or hips. I'd always heard that ProMotion was a good brand for bigger-hipped women. Sorry it doesn't fit you well now, but maybe another one with a size up could be your "off year" wetsuit? Just an idea...whatever you decide, it pays to try before you buy, so shop around your local Tri Shops. Happy shopping, -Sunny |

Extreme Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() My wife is about the same size as you, maybe a little bigger (she don't tell, I don't ask) but she's worn a sleeveless Zoot (Z1 I think) and it fit her well. |

Pro ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() I'm about the same size as you (5' 9" 170) and wear an Orca Sonar sleeveless in men's size 7. I really love the suit. |

Master ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() I have a Zoot full, women's XL. I love it! We are about the same size although I carry more weight in my 'top half'--I do have very muscular legs and my rear is far from small. Pix if you are interested, although none are of me actually doing a tri--it's a goofy photo shoot: http://www.beginnertriathlete.com/discussion/photos/photo-thumbnails.asp?albumid=7860 . Keep us posted as to what you find!

Frugal Gear Geek ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() ok, other sex chiming in. I have been working on a review for BT on wetsuits. A quick glance at my numbers, and you might want to consider a DeSoto 2 peice suit. The reason I suggest it is the are a great suit for disproportionate people. You can get say a size 5 for a bottom and a 4 on top, or what ever the sizes would be. You look like a size 5 based off just weight and height issues, but check the site. Plus the T1 suits are VERY stretchy. I also reviewed F2R, NeoSport and ProMotion full suits for this review. F2R looks like they might work off the shelf. You could get into a mens cut for NeoSport it looks like. If you liked the ProMotion, you could go back to them. One of the things I liked about them was they offer the ability to custom fit new wet suits for hard to fit people. It is extra, but a good fit is so important. Either way, I reviewed all these companies because they were Clysdale friendly. They all want the suits to fit, so give them a call, or at least hit there web sites. BTW, you are getting a sneek preview with this post. This is an extream readers digest of my next 6 videos comming up. Most of the info I have came off of each companies websites, but feel free to ask more detailed questions, as long as you are willing to take a guys point of view Edited by Ontherun 2008-07-30 6:34 PM |

I wonder if there's somewhere around here that carries De Soto wetsuits so I could try one on. |

Frugal Gear Geek ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() not sure about trying one on where you live, but they offer a 100% guarenttee that you will get a suit you like and fits or your money back. Give them a call, or e-mail if you can not find someone local. BTW, I have found local shops do not tend to stock our sizes as much. |

I can order something and see if it works or not. I can usually tell in the first few minutes cause if I can get it over my quads and calves, it might be a winner. |

Master ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Well that's good. I can order something and see if it works or not. I can usually tell in the first few minutes cause if I can get it over my quads and calves, it might be a winner. A trick I recently learned is to put your feet into a plastic bag before putting them into the wetsuit--then the suit slips over easily--it might make a suit that was hard to get on a better option. While we are on the topic of easy on, here's an easy off for a full suit. Unzip in the water, dip down and fill the top with water and pull from the neck--the water pulls the arms and top off easily, and by the time you hit T1, all the remaining water in the suit is in the legs so they slide off quick, too. Try it before a race, though! |

Master ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() +1 on using plastic bags on the feet to slide them into a wetsuit...it really does work! Suit Juice helps a little bit too...but it really only helps with putting it on, and not so much with taking it off. |

![]() | ![]() On F2R: The size chart looks *so* reasonable. And the suits do fit. But getting them on is a beast of a challenge. The neoprene feels stiffer than the stuff I've seen in other wetsuits, and that makes getting into the thing practically its own endurance event. I ended up going with the sleeveless Blue Seventy Reaction WLA. I'm a 5'5" 230lb apple shape. I know another woman about my height, about 25lbs lighter and more pear than me who is using the full-sleeved version of that suit. Sorry it didn't work out for you, because it's a great suit. And I'm absolutely thrilled that it works for my Athena bod. ![]() |

Master ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() I've got a QR sleeveless XL and I love it - Im just a bit shorter at 5 8" and about 170. It fits well. |

Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() I cut the bottoms off the legs and arms in order to make it easier to get on and off. I wear the entry level Orca suit (£99), but in a man's size because the women's suits don't come big enough for me. It's pretty tight on the hips but fits well everywhere else. I'm 5'11" and about 200lbs.
