Just got off the phone with PJ.  Despite sounding like she had just smoked a box of cigars all by herself, she came thru the surgery fine and dandy!! doc found lots messed up in there (good thing they only checked her hip........imagine if they wouldve looking inside the head!!!  shhhhhhhh dont tell her i said that!!) but she has been up and walking with crutches already and will be going home tomorrow.

Her hip was completely screwed up.  If you have seen her at races you woulda thought she was a 90 year old woman after finishing a stellar race.  That woman could not be held down even though she was in pain 24 hours a day.  Months of trying to find out what was going on and she finally found her answer.  I think it was torn tendons, coming away from her hip....YOUCH!!!  Glad to hear she is up and around.  Of course, I would expect nothing less.  She is TRULY a DONKEY!!!!

Hey all! Im home and finally feeling like getting on the computer! Surgery went well, stayed in a day and half after for pain control. They found the small tears in the labrum of my hip that they expected, plus a BIG tear that they did not! Also a messed up ligament that they did some work on. The tendons that were torn away from the femur are healing (were not addressed during this surgery...) The two surgeons are confident that I will be racing next year, hopefully not in the pain I was this year! I feel like an old lady with my walker (hush Dave!), but will hopefully be able to use crutches when I finally leave the house! The thought of training makes me cringe, and wont be able to for a few months. (oh yeah, we had a blast in Kauai, got home the night before surgery!)
THANKS to all for your support, during my painful race season and now through surgery! Send all of the good vibes on to Michelle now for her surgery Tues.

Any info on what could have caused the tendon tears?

Glad you had it taken cared of and on the road to a fantastic recovery!

the labral tears (the outer, softer edge of the cartilage on the acetabulum...socket) and the ligament damage were all from ...sigh...running. I knew running alot faster the past two seasons had to give. Ah well...
