Not so much a gear question, just a "Daaaaaamn!"

I just changed the battery in my Timex 100 lap IM watch. The hardest part was dealing with the strap. My fingers hurt, but it's done!

I always send mine back to Timex to make sure I retain the waterproof feature.  Their service is very reasonably priced.

Yeah, I made the mistake of trying to change the battery in mine!  I spent 2 hrs trying to get the band back on.  I finally took it to a jewler and he put  it back on for me.  He also said I did not have the gasket seated properly so I'd of ruined the watch had I gotten the band on and took it in the water.  Never again.  I'll pay the $10 to let the jewler do it next time.

BTW, I love this watch.  I've had it for 3 or 4 years now and my only complaint is that it won't die so I can buy me a brand new shinny one.  :-)

I've used these watches for years at a time, changed batteries myself and never lost water resistance. It is a pain, however, to get the strap back on. Getting that little spring bar in place is a nightmare. I wish you could change the batteries without removing the strap. Other than that these watches are great.

I am not worthy!

I made sure I put everything back the way it came off. I've taken apart enough things to have learned the hard way

Ok, maybe I spoke too soon. It crapped out again at the pool and water definitely got inside. I took it apart, let it dry overnight and have very carefully reassembled it. Didn't do the strap yet (just in case) but do have the handy dandy watch strap pin tool that came with my Garmin forerunner. It seems to be working ok, all function except indiglo (but I never used that anyway and I'm pretty sure that wasn't working too well before) are operational and I even put it in a glass of water for a while and pressed buttons while submerged. I know that's not the same as a swim, but so far so good.

I have noticed a 1/4 moon icon in the upper right corner of the display that was not there before. Any ideas what that is? The online manual on the Timex web site is not the correct one for this watch. I'm sure I have the real manual at home... somewhere.

Yeah, that moon thing mean you have it in "shake mode".  If you push and hole the indiglo button that will toggle the moon on and off.  When it's on, you can shake the watch and the light will come on.  I had my watch for 2+ years and never knew that till one of my employees bought the same watch and showed that funtion to me.  I never use it but I can see where it would be handy at night...if you are out running and want to see what time it is or what your race time is and you don't want to go thru the anguish of having to push the indiglo button to get the light to come on...all you have to do is giggle your wrist and the light will come on.

Next time the battery dies, I'd suggest a jewler.  $10 and the battery is replaced and you don't have to worry about it.

Yeah, I'm pretty sure it's more than just reassembling all the parts...I think at Timex they put some kind of sealant in there.  Really, their prices are SO reasonable...it's usually $7-$15 for a new battery...plus whatever it costs me to ship it there.  Very worth it IMHO.

Ha. you just taught me about a new feature on the watch.

I knew you could hold down the indiglo button and the light goes on with any button push, not just the indiglo button. But I never knew about the shake feature. I've been using these watches for years now and never knew!

The watchband is certainly a pain in the wazoo! I have a habit of squeezing the watchband on my wrist with my towel (so it won't be a sponge!) as I dry off after getting out of the pool. If I accidentally squeeze the band on the plastic by the watchface, POP goes the band.  Soooooo frustrating!

I still haven't figured out the LAP/SPLIT function. After I swim, say a 200, I'd like for it to record the 200 and save it, then the next 200, and so on for the entire workout. Don't want to hijack, if someone could PM me, that would be great. I lost the instructions that came with the watch.

You can actually watch porno flix on the display too....if that's your thing.  It's quite a watch!
