Signed up for my first Triathlon last week.  Going to start the career in Shawnigan Lake at the Subaru Shawnigan Lake Triathlon in May... Anyone else going to be competing in their first Triathlon in 2012?

I haven't decided yet which ones but I'm looking at several in the Okanagan area for my first.  I have a son living in Langford so I have looked at Shawinigan as a possibility.

So far I'm considering a number of Sprints and Olys.  I was planning to ask Kelownagirl about the Kelowna and Vernon Xterras plus I'm thinking about Peach City Tri (Oly).  I haven't registered yet but I am committed to doing the Penticton Granfondo as well.

I strongly recommend the sprint triathlon in Stanley park next september.  I've always had a great time in that event and when the weather's good and we have stanley park closed to traffic, it's a beautiful thing.

Have you looked at Oliver's sprint/oly in June? Great venue now that it's back to it's regular schedule.

Chris, I researched Stanley Park Oly/Sprint for September.  They only had 2011 info but I'll watch for it to be updated.  It actually looks very interesting and at a good time - just the excuse I need to make a trip to Vancouver.  And, I'm certain as you say it'd be pretty neat.

Peby, I have already looked at the Oliver Sprint/Oly for June 17th I believe was the date.  I'm definitely considering it.  I'm also thinking of the "BareBones Duathlon" in Penticton on May 12th, 2012.  The trouble I have just now is how much is too much?  From here I could do one a month from May to September but I'm not certain I can recover quickly enough.

Thanks for the suggestions.

Yes we are quite fortunate to live so close to some great races.

A couple other sprint races worth looking at are the Peachland (July) and Summerland (Sept.) ones.
Both are small venues with less than 200 participants.

Here's a link for Outback Events..

They host "Wine Capital of Canada" (Sprint/Oly), Oliver Half, Desert Half & Cultus Lake.. about 1 event per month from May through September (with the exception of August)..

Well organized, safe & well supported events.. worth the drive to the Interior from the lower mainland

I'll be at the North Shore Tri as well.  Not totally sure I understand your question...But I wear my tri shorts and tri top to swim in, then just have to put on socks and shoes to hop on the bike (might put on a light jacket if it's cool or raining).  I roll my socks down and put powder on them so they are easy to get on wet feet.  At some races there is a change tent that you can change out of your jammers/swim shorts into dry shorts.

I'm doing my first triathlon in September  It's the Vancouver Triathlon in Stanley Park on Labour Day.  I always admired the idea of doing a triathlon but thought it was beyond my reach, but now I really want to try.  I'm nervous but excited at the same time.  I've started training and am excited to start to see signs of improvement, especially in swimming!
