Subject: Cingular sucks

 

So my media on my phone stops working - I go in to the store and am told that it is a warranty issue and that I need to call a number for instructions or go online - I go online - they send me a new phone and have me send the old one back to them - I do. Yesterday, I get the old phone back in the mail with a letter stating that the water damage sticker indicates water damage and that I will now be billed for the replacement phone - funny thing is, there is no way to find out if the damage is under warranty without sending it in and if they decide it's not, you have to not only buy a new phone, but you have to buy the SAME phone.

 

These people may be huge and uncaring and treat their customers in a predatory fashion, but they have no idea who they are dealing with. At lunch today I am going to the store to "lose my mind" in a wild tempest of fury and glorious anger. Then, leaving falling rubble behind me like Chuck Norris leaving a border town bar fight, I will then proceed to the electronic front. After many escalations and about 4 hours of Cingular man hours and several ruined days for cirgular personnel, as well as a copious amount of threats, some valid and some not, I will work this disgusting practice into a new phone with a credit in the amount of the last phone and the remainder of the new phone charges waived. So sayeth Welshy.

Fcukers.

No friggen idea what a sht-storm awaits them today.

I went through similiar cell phone frustrations with Sprint.  Somehow, the cell companies have the power to tell you what you HAVE TO BUY.  I don't get that.  But good luck Welshy.  I pitched a fit and didn't get my own way.  But then again I didn't call Vin Disiel or Chuck Norris for back up either.

I have had many a fight with Cingular. First off, is the store you are visiting a corporate store, or a franchised store?  If the latter, they can't do crap for you, so either find a corporate store and go there, or call Cingular's customer service and open up the whoopazz on them. Oh, and don't waste your time with the front line phone person, immediately go up in the ranks. The front line folks have no power. So, give them the short version of the story, when they say they can't help you, demand to talk to someone who can.

(now, is it at all possible your phone had water damage, or are they making that up too?)

It was a corp store - The phone might very well have had water damage - that is not my problem. They don't offer an alternative to sending in the phone and buying the replacement phone - if I could have found out the phone was not covered under warranty, I would have purchased a new phone of my choosing, gone to a different provider, argued the warranty decision. This way, I am forced to buy a phone I don't want at a price I did not agree to.

Dirty, predetory bastards.

I've heard horror stories about Cingular and Sprint.  Fortunately I didn't have to deal with either of them, nor Verizon (which seemed a better company).  Was with T-mobile since their Omnipoint era.  Strayed to AT&T for a year to take advantage of some company discount, and switched back to Omnipoint/Voicestream/T-mobile.

Good luck, Welshy.  Sometimes you really need to yell.

Any time a company forces you to sign a contract just to use their service pretty much guarantees that you're going to get hosed in the customer service dept.  The last time we were in the Sprint store it almost came to blows between me and one of the reps... all I can say is:

Get 'em Welshy... Remember, punch low and punch hard.

TRUE That!  my wifes Cingular service is fantastico compared to the Sprint stuff I am forced to have for work.

It is done - I was 3waiting for them when the door opened, and I had to go all the way to retention/close my account and do a lot of barking, but it's done. Fcukers. And I got a $50 credit towards a new phone

i have only had two carriers. i had cinguler, and hated them so much i switched to At&t. (this was 5 years ago, on TDMA singnal). i loved at&t, then ofcourse what happened in late 2004, cinguler bought out my carrier. bastereds.
