I haven't seen it. But I always wonder what goes through the academy's mind on oscars. I did agree with "The Hurt Locker" winning against "Avatar" though.

I don't think it was even good.  I would put it at mediocre at best.  There are a couple of reasons the academy gave this soooooo many nominations and unfortunately none of the reasons are related to it actually being a great movie.

I find the thread title and the OP's screen name to be an amusing parallel.

Different Strokes I guess.

I thought it was fantastic.  But I'm also a history buff.  I would probably say I like Argo a BIT more for the entertainment value.  I liked them both better than Flight and Les Mis, but all of them were up there.

If I had all of them on DVD in front of me at this very moment, I would probably put in Lincoln or Argo first to watch again.

As a side note, my wife is a member of SAG, so as a perk, we get movies sent to us for review.  In a couple weeks, we will be getting official copies of all those movies!  We already have ARGO!

I really liked the movie and will watch again when on DVD.  As far as the Academy's choice for nominations...I'm just not an award kind of guy and don't pay much attention.  In fact, until I saw this thread I had no idea they had made nominations.

I stopped pay attention when "Shakespeare in Love" beat out "Saving Private Ryan"

I DO pay attention to the best picture nominations and eventually try to get around to them.  They are usually pretty accurate.  I had no intention of seeing Hurt Locker before it was nominated then I was shocked at what I could have missed.

The only one I STILL don't get is The English Patient.  Of all the winners, and even most of the nominations of my generation, I did NOT like it.  Just about everything else I see I will say "yeah, I get it".

Since I haven't seen anything that was nominated except Brave I can't say but maybe it's because everything else is that bad.

I really thought this was an outstanding year.

Flight, Les Mis, ARGO, Lincoln

And come on, Piranha 3DD   (yes the double D's was the intentional title) was epic!

I was dragged to see Lincoln and loved it. There didn't seem to be a wasted word in the movie. You have to be ready to sit and really pay attention though.

I still haven't gotten over Forrest Gump beating out Shawshank Redemption. I must be the only person I know who didn't like Gump.

I thought Argo was an excellent movie. The period clothing and hair styles alone were awesome.

I just watched Gump the other night on HBO.  Fantastic!  Granted, Shawshank could be my most favorite movie ever.  I still remember the chills at the "twist" and summary sequence the first time I saw it.

It was not better than Shawshank, but I can see how it competed and can't say it was a travesty that it won.
