My job is so frustrating. It makes it even worse that after a month of searching and complaining I have no job, I finally got one. And its decent pay and benefits and all that stuff, but its SO not my style. And now Im pretty sure Im going to give my notice to quit, and of course all I hear from people is how I should "stick it out". Why?? Our lives revolve around our jobs (sadly), why should I spend 8 hrs a day being miserable? Obviously to get $, but other than that, why? So Im frustrated and needed to say so.

I'll start. Exactly what are you sticking out? Do I need to call HR?

HA HA, run4yrlif always makes me crack up.

im not so "thrilled" with my job, but since i am a poor student, and after years of hard work for them, i finally make *decent* money, which would be tough to find in another job. the funny thing is my boss thinks when i graduate from USC that im gonna run my own store (to do *that* all i have to do i stick around another 6 months). jokes on her, why the hell would i get a degree from USC and stay with my company? oh swell, my job gives me apartment, car, food, and drunk money.

Ya I really can't stand my job either and I'm thinking of making a change. Me and my wife had a good chat about this. We are both engineers and both kinda hate being engineers. The consensus we came to last night was you only live once, why waste it. Do what it is you love and never look back because you are never going to get time back. Now that doesn't mean I'm going to quit my job tommorow, but I'm going to start formulating a plan to make a career shift. Now what that shift is going to be is still to be decided

Cheers
James

There are many aspects of my job as a police officer that are enjoyable. Primarily I enjoy the rare occassions that I actually get to help someone and see the positive results before I finish my shift. I also enjoy the occassional pat on the back I get from strangers who offer their appriciation and thanks for the job I (we) do. That's nice. The look of admiration and hero worship you sometimes get from children and the idea of what the uniform represents (well, should represent) to them reasserts my belief in setting a higher standard. I use to enjoy the adrenaline and drama of critical cases. I would seek them out and try to be first in line whenever anything was particularly hairy because I wanted to experience the true grit of reality. The more raw, the more dangerous, the more I wanted to be the pointman. After 13 years... I've outgrown that. And yeah, I get a decent wage and a decent benefit package and retirement after 25 years. I also enjoy a certain "eliteness" that is generally granted to police officers in various situations (of which I will not discuss here). And now, I have an office position that is pretty easy and affords me lots of time to cruise the BT boards! :)

There are some aspects of my job that are so-so. While I do enjoy the exposure to an uncensored world, the images that I take away have made me very cynical and untrusting. Its a trade I must endure.

The unhappy aspects of my job are many. When I took my oath I voluntarily relinquished many of my civil rights in order to wear my badge (the extent of which I did not fully realize until several years after graduating from the academy). I volunteered to be held responsible for the actions of others in my field with poorer ethics than my own. I volunteered to take the abuse of an ungrateful public of whom I must risk my life to protect. I volunteered to watch the sad story of people who choose to waste their lives and the pain it can cause to their families. I volunteered to make the medium of my craft the most undesireable members of our society. I volunteered to witness first hand the horror than men can do to other men.

But, after all of the above my job is just that... just a job. 12 more years of tolerance and then, aloha!

Note: Just to give you an idea of the range police officers must be able to cover, I once dug a piece of a man's brain out of the treads of my boot while I was eating an egg sandwich. I then had to immediately go to an intermediate school and handle a case where a group of 12 year old girls were calling each other names (and I was suppose to care). I told the vice principle (who was quite unnerved by the incident with the girls and was very determined that "something must be done!") "if you only knew what I just left."

My feelings about my job ebb and flow like the tides... Right now I am in "I hate my management and my job because of them" mode. I booked 2 appointments with headhunters for next week... Hopefully things will change soon.

Any job leads for a freshly minted MBA and soon to be 1/2 IM?

courtney_leone - 2006-01-11 5:41 PM I totally hate my job! My mind is turning to mush and oozing out of my ears. It is that boring and pointless. I asked Andy if I'd make a good firefighter and he told me no He is SO mean

Who is this Andy guy you speak of ?
