Finally saw this movie. I really liked it and recommend it. For those of you that have seen it, is it factually correct?

Oh and Reese Witherspoon is hot.

Have no idea if it's factually accurate, but I just wanted to say that I liked it too!

I liked the movie also.  However, I didn't think Joaquin Pheonix sounded much like J.C.  I'm a big fan of Cash so maybe I'm a little biased.

LOVE the movie, saw it 3x in theatres, now own the DVD. (get the one with bonus features!)

It is accurate. Reese sounds SO much better than June ever did, may she rest in peace. I don;t think ANYONE could have played Cash better than Joaquin.  And their onscreeen chemistry was, to me, very convincing and very close to what I remember reading and seeing between JC and June.  I am a huge fan of both Johnny and June, and I was prepared to  hate the movie, but, obviously, I love it!

Just saw it last night.  I thought it was good.  I read Ebert's review and he said the scene where he proposes sounds like it was written for the movie but he did some research and it actually happened that way.  That's all I can attest to as far as historical accuracy.

I thought Witherspoon was excellent.  I said to my wife while we were watching it that I was aware that I was watching Phoenix playing Cash, but that when she was on screen I just thought of her as her character, not as Witherspoon playing Carter.  I don't know if I'm explaining it right but to me that was a sign of how good her performance was.

Haven't seen the movie, but I can confirm this statement is correct.

Don't know how accurate the movie was. I thought the movie was just okay--it was pretty slow (and noticeably lacking in explosions and fast cars...).

I thought Phoenix did a stunning job. I am amazed at how much he actually sounded like Cash.

I know that I will probobly get blasted for saying this but I didn't think it was all that great. It was a very disneyfied version of the story. But I am a HUGE Johnny Cash fan and I may have set the bar too high.
I also didn't like the cheap shots on Elvis.

I have to agree with the above post from Rich.   So if I remember it right, Elvis was the one who got him hooked on drugs?  AT least that's what I remember seeing in the movie.

Dennis Quaid does a WAAAY better Jerry Lee IMHO.

Like I said, I just saw it last night.  Someone else first offered him the drugs, the guy just said something like, "come on, Elvis is doing it too."

Hangloose, I agree with you about Reese being the character.  I thought she did a fabulous job.

I thought the movie was great.  The only issue I had was I thought the drug abuse story was too long.

I think I heard that either Jonny, himself, or his son gave an okay for the movie so I would think it would be close to the truth.

Anyone know if there is a sound track CD for this movie?  Yes, I'm old school still buying CD's.

This may be balsphemy, but the Johnny Cash remake of NIN's "Hurt" is unbelievable.
