Subject: RE: Give me a motivating kick in the a** PLEASEI passed a guy with a similar prosthesis in the Chicago Marathon, gave him a big thumbs up as I passed. My physical thumbs-up was a lot less meaningful than the mental thumb-up he gave me. The Mardi Gras Marathon is run on a double-loop course.Starts at the Superdome and goes out to City Park, then back to the 'Dome where the half ends. Marathoners then head out on a second loop to Audubon Park before also finishing in the 'Dome. Very tempting, very easy for marathoners to quit at the halfway point. When I ran it in 2003, I had such an urge to quit, when I came upon a man on the side of the course with his friend. The man had just re-adjusted and re-strapped on his prothesis, and told his friend "See you in two hours," as he started that second loop. How could I possibly quit then? |
