Subject: Dec. snowshovel challenge

For us Midwesterners, this is a (bragging) thread for posting your snowshoveling workout that was done without using a gas-powered or electric snowblower, or a snowplow (either attached to a tractor or vehicle).  That's right, all shoveling done by hand using a snowshovel!

Today, Dec. 2, I snowshoveled for 3-1/2 hours.  Snow was wet and heavy.  Oldest son and wife helped a little.  Prior to and after the snowshoveling, I started my Dec. pushups/situps challenge, too.

Feeling VERY sore at the moment and am laying low for the next 24 hours.

Let's hear from you, Midwestern Tri-peeps!!

3.5 hours! MAN! You must have a looooong driveway!

Yeah, we were out shoveling..our driveway, walk, sidewalk, mounds of snow from the plows, and back deck area. Of course for every 3 shovels full of snow we'd flip to the side, my son would either shovel or kick a shovel full back on the the drive! HAAA!

Ironically DH tried to use the snowblower but it wouldn't start. He was all in a tizzy cuz gas was left in it over the summer...I suggested just putting some 'new' gas in and he looked at my like I was nuts..but did put some in. After we were all done shoveling, he tried it again and Voila! Hummed like a bird.

My portion of shoveling was about 30 mins worth. I need to save some energy for the epic snowman building fest in the back yard. My son and I made a nice one complete with a Santa hat.

3.5 hours! MAN! You must have a looooong driveway!....

3-car garage wide for the first 20 feet or so, then another 40 to 50 feet at 2-car garage wide, then 3 patios - 2 @ at 16 x 12 or so, 1 at 4 x 4.  Yep, looooooooong morning, too!

The killer is at the end of the driveway, obviously, thanks to the "friendly" county plow, to which I have to do an additional 3 to 5 feet deep by 20 feet wide clearing that they leave.

I hate it when I'm all shoveled out and the big plow comes thru piling me in. I think those guys take pleasure in doing so

Actually, when I lived in CT, I had to park in the street so when it snowed, my car was plowed in at times up to 2-3 feet up along side it! Getting to work on those days took hours!

My shoveling didn't take long (10-15 min, tops) because a neighbor took a snow blower to the sidewalk that goes in front of my house.  But, the shoveling I did was done in running shorts...

All we have had so far is just slush and freezing rain, Actually as I speak it is snowing but not too much accumulation. I forgot to pay the snowplow dude this year so I think it will probaly be my butt out there when the snow piles up. Frown

Wed. Dec. 5 - 1 hour shoveling, started at 4:30 a.m.  5 to 6 inches plus drifts.  Much easier pushing this time around.  What a great way to get the body moving in the morning!

1st timer...you had best invest in a snowblower there amigo! Ok, I'll admit 95% of the time I use the shovel vs the blower cuz it's actually faster and easier when the snow is dry/light or less than 4-5 inches. But the mega snows are handled by my machine friend the blowhard snowblower.

Cool !!!  I'm going to brag that living in a condo and having associations dues means I don't shovel snow (or cut grass)....for now.

Of course I will be at the next house.  DAM!!!!

Last night I shoveled some small snow drifts into a pile of snow so I could use my new snow blower.  Does that count?  It was pretty fun!

With 25 mph winds and quite a bit of snowdrift, I was able to get 30 min. in!  Much better feeling.

Anyone else?? Bueller?

I shoveled for about 45 min a week ago and then remembered why I have had plow service the last couple of years. Got inside and called my buddy and he is on it the white on rice Wink

I cheated the other day and borrowed my neighbor's snowblower, but did have to do a 1 hour snowshovel "touch-up" trying to dig the stuff off that stuck to the driveway.

Darn, I didnt see this challenge earlier! We shovel quite often...Only use the snowblower for the big snowfalls but my husband likes to keep the drive clear, you know with none of those bumpy built up tracks in the middle so before I pull out or in to the garage, I usually have to shovel. (This is similiar to having the greenest lawn in the summer!) Sometimes when I'm in a hurry or not dressed quite for snow shoveling, I only shovel two paths for the tires! I know that sounds bad but I still could use some sympathy or bragging! Well its only December, got a few more months...
