Anyone heading up to Guelph Lake for any OWS practice before June 22nd?

How many BT'ers do we have coming out to Guelph Lake 1?

Nope, and I am getting nervous - gotta get some OWS in in the next two weeks. It won't be at Guelph Lake though - gulp!

I am registered for the try a tri! My first!! *fingers crossed* for a good swim. The rest I can slug through.

I think trisprintolympic will be there too ... anyone else?

I swam at Guelph Lake, main beach, early this afternoon and the water is quite comfortable.   Swam for 40+ minutes and not cold at all.   A friend had a sleeveless on and was fine as well.

We, and some others I know, plan to get a few swims in before Guelph Lake I.

It would be nice if we could get a few BT'ers together for at least one of those swims.

Right now we are looking at next Friday morning for a swim, followed by a bike.    Anyone interested?

I'm in, I'll just have to juggle the meeting schedule.

I've only done minimal swimming this year.

Depending on how well I feel, I'll register fro the Sprint or the try-a-tri....haven't swam enough for the olympic yet.

I have been out there twice this week...Tuesday and today.  Quite a temp difference between the two days, today being very nice, should be perfect for the race!

By the way, I am racing in the Oly dist race, my first one! (Oly, that is)

We will be swimming at 8:30 a.m. Friday the 12th at the Main Beach, followed by a bike - 20km? or so.

We will be meeting again on Sunday the 14th, at 8:30 a.m. to do a MOCK Olympic race.   This will NOT be race pace.   A good moderate effort to get a feel for the distance, strategy, nutrition, etc.   so we will be better prepared for the 21st.

Anyone interested in either or both sessions would be most welcome!!!

sounds like fun, unfortunately, I have to work both of those days.  I hate it when work interferes with training!  I'll probably head out next Thursday for a swim and possibly a ride or run after...

I might come out...considering my first OWS at Lakeside was a disaster. Could definitely use the practice

That would be great!    The weather is looking good for both Friday and Sunday, and possibly only a 5 km/hr wind.   How nice is that!

Sorry to hear your first OWS.    We ALL can use the practice.     Are you competing at GL 1?

Does anybody know how the bike and run are for the Sprint? Hilly? flat? I know there is a hill from the lake to transition.

Hoping to do better this week than in Lakeside. Having my chain fall off 3 times on the bike really sucked.

Too bad about the chain falling off.   Had you had it looked at?   They may have the cable tension adjusted super tight so that it literally jumps gears when you go to switch, and if you are in the wrong gear at the back it will fall off for sure.

The sprint does have a couple of hills for sure along with some good flat sections.   You will have to work hard on the hills but it is still a fun course.    The run is pretty flat this year.   There used to be a rather annoying his near the finish, but they have changed the course this year.

Are you going to come out for a practice OWS on Sunday morning?    If not, best of luck for a great race.

Cool

Funny story of the day

I went out for an OWS this afternoon to see if I do the try-a-tri or the sprint. I've focused on training for the Ottawa 1/2 Marathon for the past 4 months and don't think I've fully recovered from it.

Anyway...got the beach tried to slide into my old wetsuit and low and behold it didn't fit. Pulled so hard I broke the dam zipper. I swear I heard a group of teenager's howling at my efforts. :-)

(Yes, my diet has been lacking as of late and I'm getting old)

Determined I dove in and swam anyway.  Things didn't get any better in the water.  I stunk. That's what you get for not swimming in months.

So...needless to say it's the tri-a-try for me.  Oh, how my fitness has fallen, once upon a time I pulled off the Olympic at Guelph Lake and  had my sights set an a 1/2 Ironman. Of course that was 15 pounds ago.  Today was just the wake up call I needed!

Oh well, hopefully I don't DNF at the Try-a-Tri.

Anyone else doing the Try-a-Tri at GL next weekend?

I'm considering it, knee might have other ideas, however.
Anyone familiar with the course?

I'm doing the Tri-a-Tri (my first race ever) with a couple of friends.  We went yesterday and did a run through to get more familiar with the course.  The water was cold and dark and I'm praying  it will warm up a few degrees by Saturday.  I really liked the bike course and hopefully the wind will be blowing the same way (I was at least 5km/hour faster on the way back with no extra effort).  There is only 1 biggish hill but it isn't very long.  The run course is more hilly than I practice but still very do-able.

I'm very excited and can't wait until Saturday!

I'm doing the sprint again this year....I have done many.....still remember my very first one and I still get very excited and pumped before each race.  It is addicting and rewarding.  ENJOY the experience this Saturday and GOOD LUCK!

PS  It doesn't matter the distance we do....just enjoy it and feel proud of your accomplishment!
